“Pull up the security footage,” Sawyer said.

“Just on it now,” Brody said, reaching the desk. He moved behind and started tapping on the keyboard.

“Tell Uncle Asher and Dan what I told you about Jolena,” Sawyer said to Ryder as he pulled out his phone and made a call.

“It’s Sawyer Duke, Mrs. Reid,” he said when Jolena’s mom answered his call. “Is she still in that facility or out and doing okay?”

He listened to her speak while Ryder related his story.

“And she’s vanished? Which means it could be her who just tried to burn my business to the ground.”

Jolena’s mom started crying and then promised to let him know as soon as they found her and for him to do the same.

He cut the call.

“And you didn’t tell us,” Uncle Asher said, looking angry.

“Anger later, right now Jolena’s mom said she left home, where she’s been living with her since she checked out of the clinic six months ago. She’s been doing great and working again. Even going out and shit, but seven days ago she just vanished, and they can’t find her.”

“Found something,” Brody said.

Sawyer moved to look over his shoulder. The figure was a woman, tall and about Jolena’s height. Ball cap.

“That’s Kathleen Keller,” Dan said.

“Who?” Sawyer demanded.

“The long-lost Keller cousin who hasn’t been back in years,” Dan said.

“How do you know that? Because from where I’m standing, she looks like Jolena even though I can’t see her face,” Sawyer said. His insides were ice cold.

“She arrived about a two weeks ago. Been playing poker with Larry and his friends at the bakery. Also spent time at the Do Si Do,” Dan said.

“And she’s Beau’s cousin?” Sawyer asked.

Dan nodded, but he wasn’t looking so confident now.

Sawyer sprinted out the door again and ran to where Beau Keller was standing, coordinating the fire fighting.

“Beau!”

“What?”

Sawyer waved him closer.

“I’m trying to save your business, shithead.” Dressed in a dark blue Lyntacky fireman’s uniform, the man for once, was serious.

“Your cousin, Kathleen.”

Beau frowned. “Who?”

“Do you have a cousin called Kathleen?”

“You need a paramedic to check you out, Duke? You inhaled too much smoke?”

“Answer the question, Beau.”

Sawyer never used his first name. If they talked, it was to insult each other.
