Alexandrov snorted and looked over at Ivan. “Not likely. What are our other options?”

Ivan ran through the details with his boss. “The house she is living in with Sinclair cannot be breached. My scouts ran into sensors half a mile away from the house. Short of parachuting into the cabin directly, Sinclair will be alerted by any attempts to access the property. In a week though, they are flying to San Diego to make preparations for their wedding. Our best option is to act while they’re staying at a condo on the island.”

“Is it a security nightmare, too?”

Shaking his head, Ivan said, “The condo building belongs to an ex-SEAL by the name of Joe Harrison. He’s loaning Sinclair and his new bride the first-floor condo during the wedding, a gift from him and his wife. They will be attending the wedding. A number of employees from Shield, a security company out of Alexandria, Virginia, are also attending. Sinclair is an operations mission planner for Shield, but that was as far as we could go into their computer network. They’ve got firewalls bigger and meaner than the Pentagon has.”

Sitting up in his chair, Yerik pondered the situation. “I know you well, Ivan. I’m sure you’ve had your planning team doing some creative planning on how to kidnap the woman?”

Smiling a little, Ivan sat back in his chair, folding his hands in his lap. “Having ex-Spetsnaz in our ranks is a tremendous tool, Yerik. We have two plans that we can initiate, depending upon the circumstances that present themselves at the time.”

“What are you going to do about Sinclair?”

Shrugging, Ivan said, “It depends. What we’re hoping for is that Sky Lambert will go off somewhere by herself. Or perhaps shopping with a girlfriend. We don’t want to tangle with a former SEAL if we can help it. We can’t leave a string of dead bodies behind us. It’s going to require a very careful surgical strike and extraction.”

“I agree,” Yerik growled. “The only way we grow powerful is to remain in the shadows. Dead bodies will point to us sooner rather than later. This must be handled very, very carefully. I want Lambert delivered to me in good health and with no marks on her body. She was my son’s future. Understood?”

“Quiet,” he said, giving a sharp nod of his head. “We are going to have to wait for an opportunity to strike. We must catch her in that condo alone, or somewhere without her new husband around. We will render her unconscious with a drug, and we’ll get her out of San Diego and to an offshore boat as soon as possible. From there, I assume you want her either in the villa in Guerro, Mexico or at La Paloma in Costa Rica?”

“Costa Rica. It is my hiding place from the US government. I don’t believe we’ve been compromised at that villa yet. It hides very well in the Monteverde Cloud Forest in the northern part of that country. Satellites can’t get through the surrounding triple canopy around the house and grounds. It parallels a very famous tourist resort near Arenal, the volcano, but there is enough jungle in between there to keep nosy tourists from discovering us.”

“Good choice,” Ivan congratulated. He tapped his fingers lightly together, watching his scowling boss. “What plans do you have for her? Is it going to take long? Do you want me to stay here in New York to handle things while you’re away?”

Yerik leaned back in his chair, rocking in it gently, his eyes on an oil painting of his son in Russian military uniform, on the opposite wall. Vlad was receiving a medal for his bravery as a Spetsnaz officer. “I don’t know yet, Ivan. It depends upon her willingness to cooperate or not.”

“I’m sure you will have your way.”

He slid his friend a look. “I’ve been working out the best way to manipulate her. I believe she will bend to my will.” He smiled a little. “And I’m going to be there to watch it happen. Every minute of every day is going to be designed for her to leave her old life behind.”

Ivan smiled. “Care to share? Now you have my curiosity piqued.”

“No,” Yerik murmured, rocking back and forth, his fingers tapping the ends of the chair arms, “I’m going to assess her once we capture her. I may change my mind. I may not.”

“Well,” Ivan said, rising and straightening his coat, “no one is more skilled than you when it comes to breaking a person. When you were in Spetsnaz, you were the best interrogation officer in the Russian Army. You had no equal.”

“My son was almost my equal,” Yerik whispered, pain in his voice. “He had such promise.”

Coming over, Ivan patted his shoulder gently. “Perhaps, old friend, when we capture her, this will help you heal from your loss.”

Nodding, Yerik muttered, “I will break her. And then, I will see what happens next…”

June 4

It was theirlast night at their home in Virginia before the wedding. Sky had made sure everything was ready for their trip to San Diego, California. Tomorrow morning, they would be taking a flight out and her dreams of their wedding would begin. But tonight, was special in so many ways. After Cal had come out of his shower and joined her in their bed on the second floor, she needed to ask him for one last favor.

“I want you…” Sky whispered raggedly against Cal’s mouth as they lay naked upon their bed. “Now…,” she whispered, huskily, holding his burning gaze. “Without a condom…”

Reality hit Cal. He blinked. And he saw the seriousness in Sky’s eyes. His mind spun. In two weeks, they would be married. What was she saying? He knew she was near ovulation because she was sexually hungry at those times more than any other time. Ovulation meant if he took her, she could get pregnant. He propped himself up on his elbow, grazing her cheek. The look in Sky’s eyes was fearless. Barely able to think he rasped, “Are you SURE?”

“I’m VERY sure, Cal. I want you. Inside me. Now. I’m ready.”

Cal wasn’t going to argue with her. It was nearly midnight, and he was wide awake. “Okay,” he rasped.

“I’m ready, Cal.”

“You know, you’re ovulating?” He knew her body as well as his own. He was sensitized to her because he loved her.

“Yes.”
