“Please do.”

He picked up his coffee and donut, bid her a good day, and headed out the door. He noticed how heads turned in his direction. Some of the people abruptly stopped talking. He ignored them and kept going out the door.

He turned his thoughts to his plans for the day. He climbed into his golf cart and headed toward the inn. He was eager to get started on this project.

Working with numbers was fine, but sometimes he needed more. He needed to get out of the office and out of the showroom once in a while. He was certain if he could show his parents an actual refresh project, they would agree with his plan.

His first project was to give the lobby of the Brass Anchor Inn a refresh in thirteen days’ time. It was plenty of time. He didn’t see how a fresh coat of paint and repositioning the new pieces of furniture would take much time. This was going to be so easy.

However, there was a slight delay with the paint. They didn’t have it in stock at the store, but they’d have it delivered on Monday. So today he’d take the time to move the furniture away from the walls and cover them with the tarps that he’d just purchased.

He pulled his cart to a stop in the parking lot. He was lucky to find an available spot. It appeared the inn was booked. He wasn’t surprised. Bluestar Island was a popular vacation spot.

With it being the weekend, he didn’t know if Sara would be at the inn. A part of him hoped to avoid her, but the other part wanted to explain his presence at the inn, and hopefully, it would be the end of their interactions. She could go back to her work while he made the updates to the lobby. He knew she didn’t want to spend any further time with him than he did with her.

He made his way up the walk before crossing the wide porch that was lined with white rocking chairs and potted flowers in shades of pink and yellow. He pulled open the front door. It took his eyes a moment to adjust to the dim lighting after the bright sunshine.

There was no one in the lobby. It gave him a chance to look around. Now that he was looking at the room with an eye to decorating, he noticed it was larger than he’d recalled.

He moved slowly around the room, taking in all the memorabilia. His footsteps were muffled by the thick navy-blue carpeting. This room was filled with so much of Bluestar’s history. The previous owner had worked hard to collect the various pieces of the island’s history. He’d be the first to admit that she’d been quite successful. She’d assembled it all here as a sort of museum.

The blue painted walls were lined with black-and-white photos of Bluestar Island throughout the years. As he looked at each individual photo, he felt as though he were walking back through time. They definitely needed to keep this important element in the room. He just wondered if there was a better way to display things.

He moved to the wall and removed one of the framed photos. He looked at the back of the frame and found that it had a wire across the back that attached to the hook on the wall.

“Put it back!”

The familiar voice came from behind him. He turned around and met Sara’s narrowed gaze. “I can explain.”

She took a few more steps toward him but left a respectable distance between them. She frowned at him as she took the photograph from him. “Didn’t you read the sign that says no touching?”

“I was just checking it out for the refresh.”

Her brows drew together. “The what?”

“Didn’t you talk to my sister?”

“Of course I talk to her. She’s my boss.” Sara moved past him and proceeded to hang the picture on the wall once more.

When she turned around, he said, “I meant did you talk to her today?”

She checked her fitness watch. “Not hardly. It’s not even six a.m. on the west coast.Andit’s the weekend.”

“Why are you working on a Saturday?”

“I’m not—officially that is. I just stopped in to check on things.”

He nodded in understanding. He did the same thing at the furniture store. “When you talk to Josie, she’ll tell you that I’m going to be doing a bit of redecorating.”

“Decorating?” Her forehead creased with lines. “Where?”

“Here.” Obviously, this was going to take more explanation than he’d been anticipating.

He couldn’t be serious.

Sara stood in front of Kent. Her gaze held his. There was no smile on his face. And there was no amusement in his eyes.

He was serious. He intended to redecorate the inn’s lobby.
