“They’re our fucking allies, man,” he groans.

“Someone touches my woman—”

“She’s not your woman,” he says sharply, and I shrug again.

“Sure she is.”

“No, she’s not.”

“Yes.” I drop my feet to the floor and lean forward, resting my forearms on the table as I glare at him.

“Does she know about this?”

“Doesn’t matter,” I say. “I say she’s mine, so she’s mine.”

“That’s not how it works,” he laughs. “She has some say.”

“Nope.” I shake my head. “She’ll come around.”

“Kiwi.” He runs his hand over his head. “Don’t scare the woman. We don’t need another—”

“That was bullshit and you know it.” I point at him and he shakes his head.

“Look, all I’m saying is it wouldn’t be the first time a girl has taken a restraining order out on you. Don’t go all fuckin’ nuts on Kennedy and make her go to the cops.” He gives me a hard look and I roll my eyes. “They’ll lock you up this time, man. And that’s the last thing I fuckin’ need right now.”

“The charges were dropped as soon as a judge looked at the case,” I say. “She was cheating on me and I wanted my shit back.”

“You broke into her apartment and slept in her closet for three fucking nights,” he says dryly. “And it’s not cheating if she didn’t know you were even together.”

“The guy she was with was a known woman-beater,” I say. “I couldn’t let him hurt her.”

“Kiwi,” he says again, exasperated. “Man, come on.”

“Like you would’ve done anything different,” I scoff.

“I would have,” he says. “I wouldn’t have slept in her fucking closet, for one. And two, I would’ve—”

“Gone Reaper on his ass and killed him?” I snap, lifting my brows. “Why is it okay for you to go crazy and not me? Why is your crazy fine?”

“Because my crazy gets only one person hurt. I know when to stop. You don’t.”

He’s not wrong, but he’s not right either.

I know when to stop, it’s just that I don’t want to stop.

I want every evil motherfucker buried six feet under, and I don’t want to stop until that deed is done. But I can’t do it all at one time, and that’s the thing I forget when I’m in the middle of it.

“What do you need from me?” I ask. He sighs again, knowing I’m done listening to him.

“Have you found anything with Belfast?” he asks. “You know where they’re holding the girls?”

“We have a few leads, but nothing solid yet.”

“You gonna give me more than that?” he asks, and I shake my head.

“Nah.” I push to my feet and knock on the table a few times. “That’s it for my status report, Prez. And don’t worry about Kens. My crazy is locked up tight.”
