Sure, we had deep conversations, wild rainforest sex and multiple orgasms, but nothing’s changed—I’m still not good for Davis. I’m not worth the drama that tags along with me wherever I go.

Now, I’m here, fighting back my tears, struggling to hold myself together. But I have no right to be lovesick over the man I walked away from four years ago.

Across the room, Baby Sparkle is adorably tearing up the dance floor with her father. The kid has rhythm. I’m impressed by the way the little girl is keeping time with the upbeat song the band just started playing. Meanwhile, Harry is spinning Grammy around nearby, making her laugh and blush.

Ziggy is in the opposite corner of the room, giving Mason a tarot card reading. I chuckle at the look on the poor guy’s face. His brows are dipped low, his lips are a thin line, and it’s apparent that he’s not thrilled with whatever predictions the opinionated psychic is giving him.

The two exchange heated words, and Mason shoots out of his chair, stomping off. Ziggy shakes her head at his tantrum.

I guess she refused to give a second opinion tarot reading. She’s a stickler like that.

Ziggy collects her deck of cards, strolls our way, and drops down at the table where our group is sitting.

“What wasthatabout?” Emma asks dunking a chunk of her dinner roll into whatever sauce is on her plate.

“He didn’t like what I had to say. But the cards never lie.” Ziggy shrugs unapologetically. “If the cards say your relationship is a dead-end pit of misery, I’m gonna tell you your relationship is a dead-end pit of misery. And as for his job at the clinic—let’s just say, that’s another hopeless cause.”

“Ouch!” I push my overflowing plate of food toward Ziggy, so we can share. Always a wandering soul, she has yet to go through the buffet line.

“He and his girlfriend had a blow-out argument yesterday,” Nadia tells me between sips of her wine, filling me in on what I missed before I got here. “Apparently, Zara wanted ruby red grapefruits. But the guesthouse only had white. It was aproblem. She stormed out of breakfast and called a cab.”

“Dra-ma!” Emma turns up her nose. “YouknowI’m writing her into my next book.”

Nadia shrugs. “Girlie, you’re a romance author. Anyone with half a brain knows not to act a fool in front of a romance author.”

“Who’s getting written into the next book?” Meghan asks warily as she approaches. She slams a bottle of tequila on the table and she squeezes herself into the seat next to me.

“Zara,” Emma growls.

Meghan makes anI just smelled spoiled milkface. “Please feel free to kill her off. Slowly and painfully. Get creative about it.” She starts pouring booze into everyone’s empty glasses.

“You know I will,” the novelist promises, tossing back her shot. “To add literary tension, of course.”

“That’s too bad,” I say. “Mason’s a really great guy. I hope he finds someone who’ll appreciate him.”

Meghan’s eyebrow pops up her forehead. “Oh, you have opinions about other people’s love lives, do you?”

Eeep!I walked right into that one.

“We’ve been trying to get Alana to spill all the details on what happened between her and Davis when they were locked away in that secluded cabin,” Emma tells the bride, one eyebrow cocked.

I lamely defend myself. “I didn’t say Iwouldn’ttell you.”

“Maybe not. But you’ve been stalling,” Nadia argues before taking a sip from her glass.

“I’m not stalling. I’m…processing.” I knock back a mouthful of tequila.

“Well, we’ve been dying to find out what happened,” Emma tells me.

“And we want all the juicy details,” Meghan demands. When I glare at her, she makes puppy dog eyes. “C’mon, Al. My wedding just got postponed. Entertain me.”

“Emotional blackmail? Really?” I glare at my bestie.

Meghan just claps her hands over her chest and bats her eyelash extensions at me. “Whatever you want to call it. All I know is, I’m sad. So very sad. I need a distraction.”

Ziggy tilts her head, scrutinizing me in the way she does. “Huh. Your aura is—”

I blurt out a laugh. “Oh don’t you start on my aura. Your aunt treated me like a real-life mood ring the whole time I was at her house.”I swear, I’ll be getting flashbacks to Rainbow’s daily aura forecast readings for months to come.
