Page 81 of Vicious Chaos

“This is a whole new level of dramatic, even for you,” Ryder chuckles. I laugh with him. I can’t deny that I love the spectacle of it all.

I may not have ever planned for it to be this way, but I’ve changed a lot from the girl who cried as she dyed her hair black. Who got her first tattoo after her first kill. Who needed to be held together by someone else as I broke apart. That girl would never have thought bloody messages were in her future.

Charlotte wasn’t strong enough to endure this world. It’s why I became Scar, born from the blood and ashes of my past. Who I am now, relishes in the chaos, thrives with the fanfare of it all, lives to see just how far I can push my sanity.

Ryder whistles as I finish with a flourish. “Fifty points for pure theatrics.”

Kade snorts in disagreement. “I think she should lose points for making me feel like I just stepped out of Harry Potter.” Dick. I smack his shoulder. He’s just jealous he didn’t think of it.

“Did you dicks forget we can’t see you?” Declan asks. His tone makes me smile, a flutter of pure happiness striking through me. Every day he gets more and more comfortable with the guys. Lets them see the guy I fell so hard for.

“She used Ryans blood to leave a message,” Kade explains.

“And?” Noah chimes in. He’s been more quiet than usual, but I know it’s cause his attention is split between both jobs.

Ryder clears his throat before reading aloud, “The empires of St Graves are colliding. One is sure to fall…”

Silence fills the line and I struggle not to laugh.

Luca is the first to crack, laughing and I can almost picture him shaking his head. “So this is what our lives have come to?”

Everyone begins laughing as I pull the glove off of my hand, wrapping it carefully before putting it in a bag and securing it back in my pocket.

“There’s a second part of that message, isn’t there, pretty girl?”

“Of course there is,” I agree brightly. “You’ll have to wait for part two though.”

“Fifty points to Scarlett then,” he says. I do a little dance as I stick my tongue out at Kade. That’s the two I needed for my points.

“Come on Mafia Bosslady,” Ry calls. “We still need to get out of here and meet Rachel.”

“News?” I ask as I follow Kade and Ryder back out of Ryans’.

“Things got a little messy for a bit, but no one was hurt,” Noah answers. “They’re moving out now with the inventory. Rachel said she knew someone who would be able to move it. Probably better to meet with her tomorrow though.”

I hum in thought before checking my watch. I guess it is getting late. They will probably be wrapped up in that for a couple more hours at least.

“Do they need any help?” I ask Noah instead.

He takes a moment to respond, and I have to assume he switched lines to talk to Rachel. “She said they’ll be almost done by the time you guys got there anyways.”

I nod as we slip out of Ryans’ house. We stay quiet until we get a block over and hop back into the car with D and Luca. “Does she want to meet tonight or tomorrow?”

Another moment of silence before he comes back with an answer. “Tomorrow. She needs to get the inventory secured and meet with her contact. Alec said it’s best if we don’t meet him quite yet.”

His words make me pause, my guard rising at that, but the amusement in Noah’s voice doesn't match. I cock my head as I meet Luca’s eyes in the rearview mirror, the same confusion I’m feeling reflecting back.

Noah clears his throat. “Alec said the guy is, and I quote, an absolute cunt nugget whose own mother would avoid him if she wasn’t dead.”

We all exchange surprised looks. “Why do I get the feeling there was more to that?” Kade finally asks, making Noah laugh in response.

“Oh there was, pretty sure he’s still going. He also compared talking to him to stepping on a Lego in the middle of the night when you just really have to pee. Then said it was easier to scrub off a permanent tattoo than get the guy to agree to a plan that wasn't his.”

“Why are they working with him then?” Ryder asks what we are all thinking.

“Rachel is trying not to, but she’s laughing as Alec’s comments get more and more specific and absurd. I can only guess there’s a history there.”

Ryder nods in understanding. “Like we all thought Declan was a dick when we first met him.”
