“Dude.”

I snap out of the imagery I’ve just created for myself and look at August, who has replaced his bar and is sitting, glaring at me.

“You have to make sure you’re paying attention if you’re spotting. You can’t be mentally picturing Shannon in a bikini.”

I give him a tight smile.

“Sorry.”

August smirks.

“Don’t apologize. It’s a good thing. Give it a little time and who knows what could happen.”

Instead of trying to correct him, I just nod. “Sure. One more set?”

August nods then leans back again, looking up at me.

“And no more daydreaming. Especially not when your dick is this close to my face.”

I roll my eyes then count him down.

The concern I feel about things with Emily is like a constant, steady ticking of the clock in the background for the rest of the morning as we finish up our workout in his home gym and then as I jog the two miles back to my house.

Should fooling around with my son’s nanny really be the way I ‘move on’ from Melody? Can anything—and I mean anything—good come from it?

But the closer I get to walking through my front door, the more that ticking noise slowly becomes eclipsed by the replay of what she sounded like as she came last night with my tongue between her thighs.

When she popped out of her room this morning, eyeing me with curiosity since I had us spend the night apart after our time in the car, I wanted to tug her against me right then. But I can’t do that when my kid is watching. So instead, I deflected and asked if she could watch Ted so I could get in the workout with August.

Emily took the bull by the horns and leaned close to me, whispering, “As long as you promise not to be too tired when you get back.”

When I walk through the front door, slick with sweat and physically fatigued, I see Emily coming out of Teddy’s room. She shuts the door softly then grins at me as she moves quickly but quietly down the stairs.

“Have fun with August?”

I stalk forward, encroaching on her space as she drops off the last step so she has to back into the wall at the base of the stairs.

“A blast.”

She arches her back as she leans against the wall, looking up at me with mischief-filled eyes.

“Not too much of a blast, I hope.”

I put one hand against the wall beside her head and dip closer, bringing my mouth to her ear, reveling in the way I see her whole body shiver.

“And why do you hope that?”

She tilts her head to the side so she can catch my eye then bites her lip.

“Because I don’t want you to be too tired.”

“Oh, sweet thing,” I tell her, eyeing that same scar on her lip. “Nothing could be further from the truth.”

“God, I never thought I could get this wet just from someone talking to me, but damn. You’re really good at it.”

And then she’s gripping my damp shirt and tugging my face down, planting her lips against mine.

I have to admit, it’s not been often in my past that a woman walked such a thin line between being both a tease and a badass, but Emily seems to know exactly where her feet need to fall in order to keep that balance.
