Constable Henry picks up a piece of paper from the folder, scanning the contents. "Mr. Laney suffered severe fractures to his bone and jaw, resulting in maxillomandibular fixation. The injuries were quite severe, but we managed to obtain several witness statements who reported hearing an argument between Mr. Laney and Miss Edwards prior to your arrival. Some witnesses have also reported seeing aggressive and violent behavior from Mr. Laney on occasions prior to the night of the incident. We issued a subpoena to obtain any minor information reported against both yourself and Mr. Laney."

"I have a clean record," Beau replies, his face firm.

Constable Henry nods. "Yes. But Mr. Laney does not. Without disclosing the information, Mr. Laney had some assault charges as a juvenile. Based on the information we have gathered, we will not be pressing charges against you."

Beau lets out a sigh of relief, squeezing my hand. "Thank fuck. That's such a relief."

I look at Beau, catching his eye as we share a smile. The Constable closes the folder, sitting back.

"This matter is now closed. I advise staying away from Mr. Laney. Same goes for Miss Edwards."

"No need to worry about that," Beau says, pushing his chair back. "We're done with that lunatic."

"Ifuckingknewtheywouldn't charge you," Chase says, jumping on Beau after we walk in the door.

I just manage to get out of the way in time as Chase clings to Beau with his legs around him. Jax looks visibly relaxed after hearing the news, shooting a quick text to their parents.

"It's been Hell," Beau mutters. "I'm so glad it's over."

"We need celebratory drinks!" Chase shouts. "Are you in, Hurricane?"

I grin. "Yeah." My smile fades as I remember. "Wait, I have plans with Ethan."

The three of them pause their celebrations, looking at me with sombre faces.

"What?" Beau breathes out. "Another date?"

"Yeah…" I say slowly, taken aback by their disappointment. "I can cancel it if you want. I'm sure he wouldn't mind if I reschedule."

Chase looks over at Jax while Beau shakes his head. "No, it's fine. Just go out and enjoy yourself. I don't really feel up to celebrating anyway. I just want to forget about it."

"Wait, no. I want you to celebrate," I argue, but Beau stalks past me heading to his room.

"Just go on your date, Addison. It's what we wanted for you," he says, giving me one last look before disappearing into his room and shutting the door.

I stare at the closed door, mouth open. I quickly turn to Chase and Jax, lifting my arms in confusion.

"What do I do?"

Jax stands up and starts walking towards Beau's bedroom. "Just give him some space. I'll go check on him. Just go out, Addie."

I spin around confused. Chase shrugs, offering me a tight smile. "Come on, I'll help you get an outfit picked."

"Youlookbeautifultonight,"Ethan says from across the table.

Turns out my perfect gentleman had made dinner reservations at some poshy four-star restaurant. Luckily, Chase had picked out a gorgeous floor-length sky blue summer dress, so I didn't feel too underdressed.

"Thanks," I mutter, reaching for some bread.

"You seem a bit off tonight," he comments, his voice full of concern.

I force a smile. "It's just been a weird day. I'm alright though."

Ethan reaches across the table, covering my hand with his. "Talk to me about it? I'm a great listener."

"I'm just worried about my friends-slash-roommates. Well, one in particular. There's just been a lot going on and I feel like I need to be with them at the moment. But they told me to come out, so here I am!" I try to finish off the sentence with some enthusiasm, but it just comes out strained.

Ethan's eyebrows crease as nods. "You're a good friend. It sounds like they have been really good to you after everything you told me the other night."
