“Alright. Gerald still says hi and he will keep saying hi until you give him a chance. The man doesn’t give up.”

We went back to watching the show and after eating, I cleaned the kitchen and did the dishes. By the time I came back into the sitting room, Vivian had gone to bed. I spent a little more time on my drawing before I returned my drawing board to the corner of the sitting room and went into my own room.

I took out my journal to write the things I was grateful for that day and it led me down a line of thought. The idea of a relationship wasn’t sounding so bad to me any longer but I knew I wasn’t ready. I imagined what it’d be like to share my life with another person and smiled while I remembered my last relationship, which was sometime in college.

It was with a college nerd and I found him fascinating. He had knowledge on vast topics and I could listen to him go on and on about a particular topic while I painted. It became clear to me that I had the tendency to fall for nerds. The relationship ended because he graduated and was moving in a different direction while I was still in school.

I yawned and shut my journal, then I lay in bed and thoughts of Leon flashed in my mind. My heart fluttered a bit when I thought about his handsome face and the steamy night of passion we shared. Quickly, I pushed those thoughts away. I had thought about him less and less recently and maybe he flashed in my mind because I was thinking about relationships. My life was great the way it was and there was no need to complicate it with a relationship.

Chapter6

Leon

The smell of coffee wafted through my nose, waking me up. I yawned and stretched out my body before turning to my side. The sight before me of the lady I came home with last night. She was naked, sitting on the bed and taking momentary sips from her mug of coffee as she scrolled through her phone.

“Oh, morning.” Her cool voice said to me when she noticed me looking at her.

“Good morning,” I responded, still trying to take in the sight before me. She went back to her coffee and her focus remained on her phone. What did she think she was doing?

“Uhmmm… what… what are you doing?” I asked.

She looked up from her phone and the messy bun on her hair fell apart. The phone fell from her hand and she used that hand to grab a handful of her messy hair and move it to the side. Then she picked her phone back up.

“Drinking Coffee. Do you want some?” she asked.

“What is going on right now? Why are you making coffee and sitting on my bed like you’re my wife?” I asked, sounding how I felt, surprised.

She chuckled. “Relax. I drink coffee before doing anything else. I’ll be out of your space soon. I don’t intend to marry you, even if you ask.”

Her response made me relax and I sat up on my bed. “I uhmm.. I also don’t bring food up to the room.”

“It’s a cup of coffee, relax.” She responded and focused her attention back on her phone. I sat on the bed watching her. After her coffee, she got dressed and turned to me,

“Last night was fun. See you some other time, or never.” With that, she eventually walked out of my room and out of the house.

Today, I had a tech event to attend. Micatech was launching their new product and I was going to check it out. It promised to be an interesting event filled with networking and multiple conversations about the tech space in Chicago. I was a little excited because there weren’t a lot of events like this.

It was 9:15 a.m. by the time I was done dressing up and my driver was already waiting downstairs. I went into the kitchen to look for what to have for breakfast. When I saw nothing, I decided to eat somewhere else and made a mental note to send Giselle, my house manager, to stock up on cereal and kitchen supplies.

I got in the car, and Ramon headed out. The first presentation at the launch was at 10:45 a.m., so I had some time to stop by a pastry shop and get myself some breakfast. There was a pastry shop down the road from where the event was taking place and I went there to get something to eat. It didn’t take me long to finish with the two croissants I got with a cup of iced coffee.

As we drove to the location, Ramon said, “Sir, don’t you think it’s time you got yourself a chef? To make your meals instead of always buying and making stops like these.”

I looked at him through the rear-view mirror. He did have a point but there were long periods when I didn’t eat at home. If I employed a chef, they wouldn’t really have anything to do.

“I don’t know Ramon; I barely eat at home.”

“That’s because no one is there to cook. I watched you ransack the kitchen for breakfast this morning.”

I chuckled, “Ransack is a strong word. But you’re right. Tell Giselle to hire a chef.”

He nodded at me and focused his attention on the road. We got to the venue, and I went in. The first presentation on the product was about to begin. I hurried in and took my seat beside Antonio, my friend, business associate and fellow CTO from another company.

We were exchanging pleasantries when the woman to make the presentation was introduced as Vivian Brown, the team lead of the product. Her face looked very familiar; it was disturbing. I tried to focus on the presentation she was making but I couldn’t shake that face off.

After the presentation, there was a tea break and we took that moment to socialize and as Antonio and I stood in the corner talking, we were joined by another CEO I knew from a tv ad. A few minutes later, Vivian, the lady who gave the speech, joined us.

We politely exchanged greetings and started a conversation about her project and how she went about it. I couldn’t help but ask,
