“Of course he did.” She eyed me and looked away.

“We are good now, so can you forgive him and move on?”

“I’ll see what I can do,” her eyes were fixed on a dress.

Another dress caught my attention and I walked over to look at it. It was a black and white mid-length shirt dress. The price tag made me gasp loudly.

“$4000!” I said to Vivian.

“It’s a Dior store. What were you expecting?”

“I cannot spend that much on a dress. It’s absurd.”

“Your date is a billionaire. You need to dress the part.”

“It just feels weird buying one dress for this price.”

“Here’s what we are going to do, we’ll look at more dresses because I don’t think that one in your hand is the one for this date and if we find something you like, we’ll buy it. I’ll chip something in.”

I knew Vivian, she didn’t do the whole split deal. It’s either she paid for something or she didn’t. We kept looking and nothing quite fit the dinner theme, so we went on to another luxury store. It was one luxury store to another for us until we found the perfect dress.

It was a black long-sleeve dress with a long slit on the left. It hugged my figure perfectly and I knew it was going to drive Leon nuts.

The lady at the payment point rang the dress up. It cost $3,680 in total. I looked over at Vivian and was bringing my card out when she brought hers out and paid.

“You said we’ll split it,” I said while fake protesting. She looked at me and laughed,

“You know I don’t do that split stuff. Besides, I know you’re putting a huge chunk of your money into a college fund for Ava and a larger gallery.”

“Thank you.”

“You’re welcome. Now, it’s time for shoes.”

“I have a pair of shoes that’ll work perfectly with this.”

We both drove home because by the time we were done, Vivian thought there was no point returning to her office. I spent the rest of the evening with Ava playing games and when she went to bed, Vivian and I saw a movie. She promised to come home early from work to help me get ready for my date and that was exactly what she did.

The next day, at a few minutes past 4 p.m., Vivian walked into the house and straight to my room. She started helping me dry my hair and style it.

“You really like him, huh?”

I shrugged, “Not really.”

She gave me a look that saidyou liar. “Why are you going on this date? No, let me rephrase. Why are you putting this much effort into looking good for the date?”

“He is Ava’s father. I just want to get to know the father of my daughter.”

“Yeah, right.” She responded sarcastically. I knew deep in my heart that I liked Leon. A lot more than I’d like to admit. By the time we were done with my hair and makeup, it was almost 6 p.m. Vivian helped me with my dress and I stared in awe at the magic she had done on my face in the full-length mirror in my room.

“Oh my! Vivian, I look so beautiful,” I said.

“You are beautiful. Leon will be here soon. Let me finish what I started.”

She hurriedly cleaned the sleek, shiny black high heel shoes and slipped them onto my feet. Then she hit me with perfume. It smelt flowery and had a hint of citrus.

“You know I have my own perfume right?”

“Yeah, I do, but tonight, you smell expensive. One of the men I worked for got me this $800 bottle of perfume. I have never used it because why would I?”
