“I’ll be the judge on how nice they are.” She responded and that was all the confirmation I needed. We walked to my car and she got in while I signaled to one of the men in my security detail.

“Pay close attention to anything or anyone suspicious. While we head home, make sure no one is following us.”

“Yes, boss.” I got into the car. Ramon took us back to my house.

Chapter27

Valentina

Dinner with Leon was great. The food was delicious but the conversation with him was better. He was funny and I never really realized that. After eating, he offered me tea back at his place and I accepted.

When we got into the sitting room, he led us to the couch. I sat down on the largest one and groaned while I took my shoes off. I carefully put them by the foot of the couch and sat down properly. He took off his jacket and threw it on the other couch, his shoes came off next.

“So… tea, right?” Leon asked and I nodded. He walked to the kitchen and I didn’t know what came over me, but I walked behind him. He was looking in the fridge when he heard me move one of the high kitchen stools in front of the counter. He turned around to face me.

“Do you have tea in the fridge?” I asked, smiling, while struggling to climb the high stool. He walked towards me.

“Do you need my help with that?”

“No, thank you,” I said, still struggling with the stool. I glanced at him and he was holding in his laughter. Finally, I got on the stool. “Why do you have such a high stool in your kitchen?”

“First things first, I have no idea when these were even bought. Maybe Giselle bought them, I don’t know. Secondly, it’s not that high, you’re just really tiny.”

He returned to the fridge and kept looking inside.

“I’m not tiny. They’re actually too tall for a kitchen.”

“Yes dear, they are.” He responded before turning back to face me. “Uhmmm, so, the tea bags are in the pantry and it’s locked. I don’t know why Giselle would lock it, but I have ice cream here.”

“What flavors?” I asked, crossing my legs.

“Uhmmm…” he took two cups out. “There’s coconut and then plain old vanilla.”

“Vanilla, please,” I said. I watched him drop both cups in front of me, roll up the sleeves of his shirt and get spoons. I could get used to watching him do everyday things around me. He climbed onto the stool beside mine, opened the vanilla cup of ice cream and handed it over to me along with a spoon.

“Who is Giselle?” I asked.

He smiled as he opened his own cup and took a little scoop. “She’s my house manager. It is her job to make sure the house is up and running.”

“That’s fancy.”

“Someone has to do it, right?” he closed his eyes, savoring the taste of the ice cream. This was the second time I’d seen him do this and it made me wish I was the ice cream in his mouth.

“Is it better than Vanilla?” I asked, feeling jealous.

“You want some?” he asked, giving me a seductive look. I panicked and shook my head. I slapped myself across the cheek inwardly. That was an opportunity I just passed off on.

“The night we met in New York; I almost didn’t come to the club.”

“Why?”

“I had been working and was exhausted out of my mind. Miguel called me to come out and I declined. Then he told me that he wanted to introduce me to a pretty lady.”

“Ohh, you went there in hopes of meeting a pretty lady. Were your hopes dashed?” I asked, rolling the spoon on my tongue.

He looked at me, “Never. I left there with the most beautiful lady that evening. Till date, she is still the most beautiful woman I know.”

“Leon.”
