I sighed in relief when the conclusion page of Lucian’s 40-page slide presentation on the latest deal he just completed for our company showed on the projector screen. We had been sitting down here for the past two hours listening to him talk on and on about this. He must have really enjoyed working on this.

The meeting finally ended and as we all left the conference room, I turned to them, “So… it’s the weekend. Why don’t we convene at my place for games, drinks and snacks? Like we usually do.”

Lucian started shaking his head before I even finished my sentence, “Brooklyn and I have a weekend trip planned. Some exciting stuff is going to go down,” he said, smiling.

“It’s just sex. You guys have it all the time,” I commented, rolling my eyes.

“It’s not just sex. It’s sex with the woman you love.”

“Ugh! That’s disgusting.” I turned to Logan, “What about you? Are you down for drinks and games?”

He shook his head, “I’m afraid I can’t. Adara and I have a long list of dates planned out.”

“Come on. You guys!” I whined, surprising even myself.

“I’m sorry. Adara and I have been so caught up with work that we need to do this for ourselves.”

Lucian laughed, “I’m not sorry. I have got to go.” He said and walked to his office, while Logan and I walked to the elevator together.

“So where are you guys going for the date?” I asked.

“She refuses to tell me what the plans are. She wants to surprise me. This is something she has been looking forward to for a long time.”

I nodded, “Fair enough. How is Luna? It’s been a couple weeks since I saw her little face,” I said, smiling.

“She is a big girl now. We discovered that she no longer likes her normal brand of cereal. Last weekend, Adara and I went to the mall and bought over twenty brands of baby food. So far, she likes about 3 of them. We are hopeful she will like the rest.”

I looked at his face and how satisfied and happy he looked speaking about Adara and Luna. It must be truly fulfilling to have a family of your own. The elevator stopped at his floor and he got off, then it took me down to mine and I got off and went into my office.

There was nothing left to do for the day, so I packed up my laptop and iPad, put them in my work bag and went downstairs. My driver, Ramon, was in the lobby having a conversation with Lucian’s driver. They were laughing and he abruptly stopped when he saw me.

He ran towards me and collected my work bag, saying that he already brought the car upfront. The two women sitting behind the front desk at the reception area greeted in unison. “Good day, sir.”

“Enjoy your weekend,” I said to them and went out. Ramon opened the back door for me and I got in.

“Are we heading home, sir?” he asked, looking at me through the rear-view mirror.

I sighed, thinking of what to do. “Yes.. I need to get out of these clothes. We might go out later in the evening.”

He nodded and started the car, heading to my house. During the ride, my mind went to how different my brothers had become because of love and a family of their own. It probably wasn’t as bad as I thought it was. If they were this happy and satisfied, maybe I’d be too. The sound of my phone vibrating in the breast pocket of my jacket caught my attention.

I took it out and saw my father was calling me.

“Hey, Dad.”

“Hello, Leon. Are you free to have dinner? Or are you out with one of your gals?” He chuckled.

“Dad, who says gals? And no, I’m not out right now.”

“Join me for dinner then. Risotto is being made.”

“Alright, Dad.”

The call ended, and I said to my driver, “Change of plans. Take me to Dad’s house.”

“Okay, sir.” He responded and turned the car around.

I went to my social media apps and tried to catch up on what was happening. Soon enough, we got to my father’s place. I went in and the aroma of fresh food filled my nose the minute I stepped in.
