He rubs his eyes and looks away from the camera. “Fuck!”

“I’m sorry honey. I hate to see you hurt.”

“Mel, you deserve to be happy.” His voice breaks. “I just wish it had been me.” He puts his head in his hands. “Oh shit!” A sob escapes him, then he looks up again quickly, taking deep breaths to try to keep it under control.

My own tears are flowing. “Wyatt, oh baby. I’m so sorry.”

He wipes a tear away impatiently. “You have nothing to be sorry for! It’s me who’s sorry! I’m the idiot who let you go.” He bangs a hand in frustration then sits, head bowed, for several long moments. Finally, he raises red-rimmed eyes. “So, what now?”

“You’re still coming here, to put on your show?”

“Yes. I’ve got this far; I can’t back out now.”

“You shouldn’t! Is there anything I can do from this end to help?”

He shakes his head. “It’s all under control.”

“Ok. Well, then I’ll see you when you get here.”

“Yeah.” He takes a calming breath. “Mel, I love you. I always will.”

“I know. I love you too, but it’s time to let go.”

He sniffs and nods.

“Bye Wyatt. I’ll see you soon.”

“Bye.”

Kirimor arrives just after sunset as promised. The minute I open the door, he wraps his tail around me and draws me to him. “Melinda,” he rumbles, holding me tight.

I burrow into his large frame, breathing in that very male, musky scent of his. “I missed you too,” I whisper.

“Are you ready to go, my lovely?”

“Yes, if you will help me carry a few things across to your drone.”

“Of course.”

It’s the work of minutes to load up my belongings. While we’re doing so, Troy emerges from his room, taking a moment to admire my new look. “Well, hello there gorgeous. That art looks mighty fine on you.”

I feel Kirimor swell with pride beside me. “It does indeed,” he concurs.

“Need any help with the bags?” Troy queries.

“No thanks, we’re all done.”

“If you’ve any room left on the drone, would you mind if I hop along with you? I’m spending the night at the main house with Kiristen.”

“It would be our pleasure,” responds Kirimor. I think he’s grown rather fond of his son’s boyfriend.

As we get on board the drone, Troy says wistfully, “It won’t be the same without you here. I’ll miss you.”

“Given the fact you spend most of your time glued to Kiristen, I very much doubt it,” I say drily.

“No, I mean it. It’s just us three humans here, and Avery and I—well let’s just say we’re never going to gel. You’re my human support group, Mel.”
