“Mel—” he pauses, searching for the right words. Drawing me close to him, he drops kisses on the top of my head. “If Kirimor hadn’t done what he did, you and I would both be dead.”

“I know.”

“So maybe you shouldn’t think of this as him betraying you, but him saving you. Can you find it in you to overlook what came next?”

“I don’t know Wyatt. I’m trying to. I want to. It’s just… I can’t forget what I saw and how it hurt me.”

He sighs and holds me closer. I stroke my hands through his dark blond hair and thank my lucky stars for having Wyatt in my life still. In all the years we’ve been together, he’s always been true and faithful. And what did I do? I threw it all away. I know it, just as surely as I know what a mess I’ve made of everything. I knew the risks of getting involved with Kirimor and his drashas. I tried to hold out and resist him for as long as I could, but then I gave in too soon and got burned.

I nestle into Wyatt’s comforting body. Finally, he pulls away and strokes a hand along my cheek. “I love you Mel. I know things are rough for you right now, but I promise everything will work out fine in the end.”

“We’ll see. Anyway, we better get up. You have rehearsals to get to and I have a meeting with Troy and Avery.”

“Yes ma’am.” He gives me a quick kiss then jumps out of bed and runs to the shower.

We’re sitting in the kitchen, sipping our first coffee, when Kirimor arrives. He walks in, escorted by Pravol who must have seen him arrive and opened the door for him. Our gazes meet over the top of my coffee cup, a somber expression in his dark hooded eyes. I put my cup down shakily.

Kirimor comes forward wordlessly. He’s a little paler than usual and there’s a bandage around his temple, but he still oozes overpowering masculinity. His tail jumps into the air and wraps around me. As it ties itself securely around my chest, Kirimor chooses to address Wyatt first. Placing a large hand on his shoulder, he booms, “Wyatt, are you well?”

“Ah, yes. Thank you I am.”

Kirimor continues to survey him carefully. “They did not hurt you at the command center?”

“No, I’m uninjured thankfully.”

“And your business here, how is it going? Do you need any assistance with it? Do not hesitate to ask, and I will do everything in my considerable power to help you.”

Wyatt smiles uncertainly and says, “Thanks Kirimor, I really appreciate that. We’re happy with the venue and about to start rehearsing this morning. Tickets for our shows are meant to go on sale later today, and any help you can give to spread the word would be really appreciated.”

Kirimor bares his teeth in a semblance of a smile. “Consider it done. I will get my aide, Sholinar, to contact you shortly so you can share with him the information you have about your program of shows. He will then make it his business to spread the word far and wide across this planet. There will not be a single empty seat in the audience for your shows.”

“Thank you so much, Kirimor,” Wyatt says, looking stunned “This is more than generous of you. And thank you for saving our lives.”

“No thanks needed. This is my honor and duty.”

Kirimor finally turns his attention to me. “Melinda, come with me. We need to talk.”

I’m half minded to kick up a fuss and say no, but I’m a mature woman and I know he’s right. We do need to talk. I nod wordlessly and stand, Kirimor’s tail still tied securely around me. “We will go to the cabin,” he states.

Again, I’m about to demur, but I want our conversation to be private, and there are too many people around in this house. “Ok.”

He leads me out to his drone, never releasing his tail’s hold on me. Wordlessly I climb in and watch him start the engine. The flight to his home is short and silent, neither of us wanting to start this conversation in mid-air. I think of all the things I want to say to him. Where do I start?

The drone lands gently outside the cabin. As I catch sight of it, my heart lightens. This is such a happy place, already filled with many joyful memories. No wonder Kirimor wants me here for this talk.

We step out of the drone and walk together towards the front door. He opens it and ushers me in to the bank of seats at the end of the room, positioned with a view of the lush green valley outside. In the short time I lived here, I loved seeing this view every morning with my coffee.

We sit, still not talking. I focus my gaze on the green grass outside. “Melinda, look at me.” My eyes fly to his. Caught in his regard, I can’t look away. “Melinda, I know you are hurt. I hurt that you are hurt.” His deep voice reverberates in my heart. “But know this one important thing, my lovely. Until the end of time, you will be mine and I will be yours. The bond we have cannot be undone. Even if you decide to journey light years away back to Earth, you will still be mine, always. I will never, never, invite another into my bed or into my heart.”

I know he means every word. I believe him. And yet. “I saw you fuck her!”

“I know.”

“You bit her breasts and spilled your cum into her!”

“I know”
