“Yeah.”

“What do you say we get that candy in a bowl, get ourselves ready for trick-or-treaters, and start our movies? Lots to do tonight.”

“Sure thing.”

Before I take more than a step, I’m snagged by Noah, his mouth claiming mine in a searing kiss. “Don’t eat all of the Reese’s Pieces.”

“Pfft, no, sir. Those are mine. I’m not sharing,” I tease. He growls—yes, growls—against my ear as he speaks. “Don’t make me spank you, Mrs. Lawson.”

“Don’t threaten me with a good time, Mr. Lawson.”

“Good lord, you two are worse than we are,” Brenna laughs, tossing a bag of candy at us. Noah snatches it out of the air with one hand while he holds me tight with the other.

“I doubt that very seriously,” he says, winking at me.

I whisper, “Once they leave…” then pull back and snatch the next bag of candy. “Now, you boys, go cook. We got this. I’m hungry.”

“Your wish,” Noah says, bowing before opening the sliding door. Hippie rushes out, Abel hollering for him to get his ass back here.

Brenna and I crack up. That boy has no chance of catching that dog. Not one. We’ll let him suffer a bit then go help.

This is not how I saw tonight going, but it's amazing, and I can’t think of a better time to find out with my family right here with me.
