Hunter followed the sexy sway of her hips as she ambled out of the office, leaving behind hints of her perfume to torture him even more.

“You know, Hunter, I've closed maybe hundreds and hundreds of deals for you,” Smith said as soon as the door shut behind her. “But this may not be one of them.” He stared Hunter down. “Women like to be courted, taken out for dinner, given flowers, and all that stuff. Hell, you would have stood a better chance of getting her into your bed if you showed her one of your islands instead of a bloody contract.” He clasped his briefcase closed and exhaled noisily.

“She might be the one, you know, to soften that granite heart of yours. Get to know her a little. She's gorgeous, damn smart, and brave enough to stand up to you. I certainly like her a lot after just a few moments of meeting her. You might actually like her, Hunter. It's a human thing to do. To like someone. To spend time with them. To date them. With your looks, and if you turned the charm on even just a fraction, she'd be falling for you in a heartbeat.”

Charles Smith liked nothing more than adding therapy sessions to his legal services. After knowing Hunter for as long as he had, he knew Hunter didn't go about things the way everyone else did. But his lawyer and friend never stopped trying to change him.

He was going to miss the man when he fired him from his job as his lawyer in as little as a month from now. Smith had no idea what was going to happen. Besides, firing the man was the only way to ensure he would retire, safely. Hunter tried not to think about his own future. He had been preparing to take up the role he had been born into all his life, and he had been stoically okay with it, except Kensley made him feel something.

“Won't you maybe reconsider dating her, as any other normal man interested in her would do?” He tried again, then picked his hands up in surrender before continuing. “But you're not normal. I get it. I'm off. I hope she agrees only because I want you to have what you want. I always want you to have what you want,” he said, smiling sadly.

“See you tomorrow, Smith.”

Alone, Hunter glanced out the window. At only three stories high, the CEO's office looked out over the well-kept gardens of High Cloud Advertising. There was something about her that seemed to scare him a little, at least. He could court her, date her, and seduce her. But he wanted to possess her. A delicate butterfly he wanted to peel apart like layered satin, then taint her perfect body with his touch.

Maybe he should leave her alone.

Chapter Five

––––––––

Kensley stumbled outof Hunter McLeod's office with her mind in disarray and her steps unsteady following the astonishing proposition he had just delivered. Surely, she had imagined everything. Right?

Unable to find Marcy in the reception area, she reached into the pocket of her skirt and retrieved her phone, which she had previously put on silent.

Quickly she skimmed a message from Marcy, who had been pulled away by herears—her words—to do something for her boss across town. She urgently wanted Kensley to message her back as soon as she was done with the meeting.

With her legs still wobbly and her heart still thudding crazily, she managed to get back to her own office without any incident. She closed and locked her door for no discernible reason except that she might go mad and definitely needed some privacy for that. Leaning against the door, she heaved out a breath that felt as if she had been holding it since she stepped into his office.

Somehow, from her mouth emerged strange, nonsensical sounds that she had no idea she was capable of producing, adding to the fact that she was practically melting.

How had the last ten minutes or so of her life occurred? Had Hunter McLeod really just offered to buy her virginity for—she glanced at the single sheet in her shaking hand—ten million dollars? Was he for real?

Yet there it was, in proverbial black and white, an offer to purchase...

Her virginity...
