“Yes. We’ll go to my place, and I’ll ask my secretary to send me an updated schedule. Now that she knows you’re here, I am certain she’s going to add things to my calendar that I won’t be able to miss.”

“She wants me gone?”

“She doesn’t know what she wants,” Alex replied.

???

“Mum, you had no right,” Alex stated.

“Pardon me?” her mother said, playing innocent.

“Alex?” her father asked, putting his newspaper down.

“Hello, Father,” she said, not having any problem with him right now.

“I thought you would be taking Bexley to your–”

“I am. Larry, Margaret, and the boys saw us leaving and wanted to say goodbye. I came in here to talk to you before we go.”

“What’s going on?” her father asked.

“Did you really tell her you thought she was only with me because she wanted to be a Princess?”

“That’s not exactly what I said.”

“Who are we talking about?”

“Your daughter has a new girlfriend,” her mother replied to her father.

“You have a girlfriend? She’s here?” he asked.

“Yes, she’s downstairs.”

“Why haven’t I met her?”

“Because none of you were supposed to meet her yet. We only just got together, and I’m trying not to frighten her off, but Mum moved up the photo shoot, and I was with Bexley, and–”

“I told you that your father moved up this shoot.”

“It’s true. I asked everyone to come back from Balmoral for it. I have to be in South Africa on our original date, and Margaret and Larry told us–”

“Fine; Father moved it up. But we were enjoying our first-ever weekend alone. I wasn’t planning on bringing her here.”

“Well, I want to meet her.”

“She’s an American,” her mother said.

“American?”

“That’swhat you have a problem with?” Alex asked. “You’ll set me up with literally any woman with a title, but Bexley being an American is a problem?”

“I didn’t say it was a problem. I just told your father that she’s an American.”

“Does she understand what being with you means, Alex?” her father asked.

“We haven’t had a chance to talk about it since we got together, but we talked about it before. I’ve known her for a while now.”

“Ah,” her mother said.
