“Yes. Why?”

“Because now that you and I are a couple, they’re going to need to dig a bit deeper.”

“Oh,” Bexley replied, squinting at the phone. “I see.”

“If we could avoid it – I promise you, I would. But–”

“I could be a member of the royal family one day. I get it.”

Alex smiled again.

“What?” Bexley laughed.

“I just like that you said that.”

“Well, I don’t just get into a relationship with someone intending for it to go nowhere. Normally, I’d suggest we go on a few dates, talk about exclusivity, meet the friends, maybe go away together, then meet the parents, move in together, and talk about engagement and everything after that, but there’s nothing normal about this.”

“No, there’s not. But not just howyoumean. There is nothing normal about what I feel for you, Bexley Woods. I’ve waited so long to find you.”

Bexley smiled and said, “If only I’d known you were hanging out on the other side of the planet, I would have taken a trip to London years ago.”

“So, you’re okay with it?”

“The check? Yeah, there’s nothing to find. I might have a speeding ticket or something, but I paid it. I’ve never been arrested. My family doesn’t have a sordid past, either. I’m pretty salt of the earth, so they’ll probably be bored.”

“How would you feel about media training?”

“Media training?”

“I know… It’s a lot. I’m sorry. Tell me about your day.”

“Alex, it’s okay.” Bexley chuckled. “Tell me.”

“It’s too much at once, Bex.”

“I’m okay. I can handle it.”

“When we go public – and that doesn’t have to be soon, Bex – the press will be all over it. That includes you and your family. We’ll take care of everything, and I promise, I’ll make sure no one gets near your grandmother. You’ll need to know how to avoid certain things and how to answer other things, though. One day, we’ll have to do a formal sit-down interview, but we can choose the reporter and how it gets handled. It’s–”

“Fine, Alex. It’s fine. I’ll do whatever training you think I need to do.”

“You will?”

“Yes, when the time comes. But that’s not right now, is it?”

“No, we can take our time. Bex, I don’t want to scare you off. You need to tell me if things are too much too soon.”

Bexley squinted at her screen and said, “Wait. What are you wearing?”

“Bexley…” Alex lifted a sexy eyebrow.

“No, not like that. I mean, maybe like that.” She laughed.

“I’m wearing the jersey.”

“The hockey jersey?” Bexley laughed.

“It’s the oneyouput on. You didn’t seem to like it, so I borrowed it. It smells like you. Yes, I know; I’m pathetic. You don’t have to say anything.”
