The elevator dinged when Bexley arrived, and she was met instantly with two students.

“Hello, Dr. Woods.”

“Hi,” she said, looking around for Alex.

“Oh, can I take this for you?” one of the students asked.

“Sure,” she said half-heartedly. “Pastries for everyone. You can put them in the kitchen.”

“Will do. Patients are in the back office,” he let her know and then added, “Princess Alexandria is in there with them.”

“She is?”

“Yes. They’re all waiting for you to arrive, Ma’am.”

“I’m ten minutes early,” she said. “Thank you,” she added when he took the bag from her.

Bexley took a long drink of her coffee and set the cup on the table by the projector. She heard laughter coming from one of the offices they sometimes used as a waiting area and walked that way.

“And then what happened?” Alex asked.

“I… I… went to… the bathroom… and… found… found… it in the trash can.”

“Well, why did you leave it there?” Alex asked, looking so happy.

“I didn’t… do… it… on… purpose,” the little boy said.

“Ah. Well, that explains it, doesn’t it?” Alex said.

Bexley stood in front of the window that was on the right side of the open door and watched as Alex talked to the two young patients. The boy had a stutter, and the girl had difficulty with an articulation disorder.

An articulation disorder meant a person had difficulty pronouncing certain sounds correctly, and in this case, the little girl had a hard time with the letters R and S, the most common sounds kids tended to struggle with while having this condition. This normally dissipated as children grew, but it remained in some, and speech therapy was often helpful. Unfortunately, articulation disorders and stuttering often meant kids like Stan and these two got bullied and made fun of. Bexley wanted to do something about that if she could.

“Your Royal Highness,” the girl with the articulation disorder said, pronouncing her R more like a W. “Do you have ponies?”

“You can call me Alex, remember?” Alex said and smiled at her. “And I have some horses, yes.”

“What are their names?”

“Oh, there are a bunch of them. I don’t know that I have time to name them all. Dr.Woods is standing right outside the door, and I bet she’s ready to get started.” Alex looked up and smiled at Bexley. “How about I give you all of their names when you’re done, though?”

“Yes, please,” the little girl replied.

“Good morning,” Bexley said, moving to the door. “Are you two ready?”

“Yes, Dr.Woods,” the little girl said.

“Yes… Yes,” the little boy added.

“Would you go into your rooms and wait for Sasha and Tara? They’ll be joining us today.”

The kids nodded and rushed off to the two patient rooms they’d been in before.

“I didn’t know you were back.”

“I got back last night,” Alex told her.

“You were at the palace last night?” Bexley crossed her arms over her chest.
