Bexley laughed, her head going back as she did, and she left it there against Alex’s arm. Alex stopped breathing for a second.

“Well, my house is a little far away, and I can’t promise Stan would leave us alone.”

Alex leaned into Bexley and kissed the top of her head, taking a moment to breathe her in.

“I have a place,” she said. “I’d like to take you there.”

“Are you going to give me any more than that?”

“It’s private. Security will be far enough away but still close enough, so you don’t have to worry about me wearing a hat backward,” Alex replied.

“Okay. Let’s go.”

“Yeah? It’s okay?”

“I want to be alone with you, too,” Bexley said.

???

“We’ll be in Wales before you know it, Ma’am,” the attendant said before she walked away to get their drinks.

“We’re going to Wales?” Bexley asked once they were sat on the plane.

“Well, Iamthe Princess of Wales, technically,” Alex replied.

“You have too many titles for me to keep up with,” Bexley said.

“Is it okay?”

“I’ve never been there, so I don’t know what I’m getting into.”

“I just wanted to be away from everything with you.”

“And Wales is away from everything?” Bexley asked.

“I have a place there. It’s technically not owned by me – I’ve paid for it, but I had it put in someone else’s name. One of my friends from university is on the deed, but it’s mine. He’s kind enough to take care of it for me from time to time, but when I found out about Larry taking the whole family to Balmoral, I called him and asked if he could drop off some things for us and make sure the fire was lit.”

“So, no one knows it’s even yours?” Bexley asked.

“Nope. Just him. Larry knows, but my parents don’t. I rarely go there these days. Haven’t been in more than a year. He’s promised me he’s taken good care of it, though.”

“What about your family? They don’t expect you to be with them this weekend?”

“My parents found out about it last minute. My father couldn’t get away, but my mother would be there. She did call and asked me to join them. I told her Alice requested I work with you on the program this weekend.”

“You lied to your mother?” Bexley asked, laughing.

“Unfortunately, I have to do that a lot more than I’d like,” Alex shared. “But it’s worth it, Bexley.”

“Here you are, Ma’am,” the attendant said, setting down the water Bexley had ordered, followed by the two glasses of champagne Alex had asked her to bring over in secret.

“Champagne?” Bexley asked.

“Thank you,” Alex said to the attendant, who walked off. “I thought we should celebrate.”

“Why do I have a strawberry in mine, and you don’t?”

“Because I know you like them,” Alex replied with a smile.
