She arched a delicate brow at him. “Seriously? You know the kind of life I’ve led in the last few years. I don’t like surprises much.”

“Fair enough,” he said with a smile. “Then you should know I have a private jet, and I intend to use it to fly you to Paris.”

Her eyes went wide. “You really weren’t joking about Paris?”

“Nope.” His smile widened. “We are going to Paris. Not only will it create a false lead for Greg, but it will be good for you not to look over your shoulder for a few hours.”

She nodded. “Thanks, Wilder. I’ll pay it all back to you. I promise. That’s an Amelia Sunderland promise.”

“Of course,” he replied. You can try.

* * *

Amelia saton one of the jet’s couches with her head back and eyes closed. The flight from London to Paris was short, and he doubted she was really asleep. She was resting and letting the last few years ebb away from her with every mile the plane flew.

“Wilder?” she asked without opening her eyes.

“Yes?”

“Do you think we can go to a mall?”

“A mall?” he laughed. “I bring you to one of the world's shopping capitals, and you want to go to a mall?”

She smiled at him as she opened her eyes. The sight made him breathless. He clenched his hands into fists to keep from lunging toward her for a kiss.

“Yeah. A mall. I haven’t been to one since I was a kid living in America.”

“We can hit one up if that’s what you want.” He would give her anything. If she wanted to fly to the US, the mall capital of the world, then he would order the flight.

Wilder didn’t care what he had to do. He just wanted to make his mate happy.

“Isn’t anyone going to miss you today while we’re off shopping? Your employees? A girlfriend?”

His heart stopped. Was Amelia asking about his marital status? Did she wonder if he was single because she was attracted to him? He cleared his throat. “I’m the CEO, yes, but the company can run without me for a day or two. My personal assistant can handle everything, and she will only bother me if there is an emergency. As for the girlfriend… Well, I’ve never really had one of those.”

She snorted and shook her head. “I don’t see how that’s possible. You’re a good-looking CEO with a huge house in London, andyou have access to a private plane. How can you be single?”

“I have a business to run and a family to lead.”

“Ah,” she nodded. “You’re the alpha of your pack.”

“I am,” he replied. “And those emergencies I was talking about? They typically happen because one of my siblings has done something they weren’t supposed to do.”

She giggled. “You’ve got a rowdy pack, huh?”

“I do,” he admitted. “Though, lately, they’ve all calmed down. They’re all mated. Some even have babies on the way.”

Amelia nodded. “A pregnancy can make people calm down a bit. Not that I would know.”

“Don’t you want children?”

She sighed and laid her head back again. “I thought I did. A long time ago before my life changed. When I was forced to marry Greg, I thought that dream was lost. Now? I don’t know if I’ll ever be able to fall in love.”

Wilder’s heart broke. It had little to do with what he wanted with Amelia. It wasforher that his heart broke.

She had been through so much. Lost so much.

“Maybe today, you can pick up some of the pieces of yourself. You can think about what you can and cannot do later. When you’ve had time to heal.”
