He grinned. She was thinking about the mate bond. That had to be a good sign. “I can’t take credit for that. It’s all you.”

Amelia laid her head on his chest. “You say the sweetest things.”

“I mean them too.”

“Maybe we should leave today. Get back to London and call your contacts with the police. I just want to put all of this behind me.”

“Of course, love. I’ll make a few calls and arrange everything.”

Wilder excused himself and went to the library where he called Padma. She would have everything ready by the time Wilder and Amelia returned to London. And maybe then, once the past was well on its way to being closed, Amelia could make her decision.

Amelia could be free to choose him.

TWENTY-FOUR

AMELIA

Amelia wrung her fingers together. She couldn’t take a complete breath without feeling dizzy. It was the right thing to do. Of course, it was.

But that didn’t mean it was easy to do.

Telling Europol absolutely everything she knew about Greg’s businesses put a target on her back. He would be livid. He might send the lions to kill her, and then Wilder and his people would have a shifter fight on their hands.

It put Wilder and his pack in danger.

Amelia hated that. It felt like she was using the man she was falling for.

“Amelia,” Wilder whispered, placing his hands on hers. “It’s going to be okay,” he promised. “You’ll see.”

She nodded absentmindedly. Wilder was strong. An alpha. He had the loyalty of his pack and his employees. Surely, the lions would be no match for them. “If something happens to you because of me—”

“No,” Wilder interrupted. “Nothing will happen to me.”

Her eyes filled with tears. “You can’t know that.”

“No,” he conceded. “But if something were to happen, it wouldn’t be your fault. I want you to promise me that you know that. None of this is your fault. Only Greg is responsible for his actions.”

Amelia nodded, but her reply was cut off by the arrival of three Europol agents. The two women and man sat in front of them in the Blood Moon Agency conference room. The very same room where Amelia had met Wilder for the first time.

“Thanks for agreeing to come,” Wilder said. “Harry, Louise, Gemma. This is Amelia Sunderland.”

“Amelia,” Louise jutted her chin toward her. “We’re told you have some important information.”

Amelia glanced toward Wilder for strength, and he nodded encouragingly. “I do. I’m scared, though.”

“Don’t be,” Harry cut in. “You’re under Wilder’s protection. Nothing will happen to you. And if he fails, which I’ve never known him to do before, we’ll be there.”

She reached for Wilder’s hand, and he gave a good squeeze. “They know what I am,” Wilder whispered. “It was important for them to know who and what they were dealing with.”

“Oh. So you know that Greg has lion shifters on his bankroll?”

Gemma nodded. “We do know, yes. Wilder mentioned it. Thanks for telling us. Now, our people will be prepared when they arrest Greg and his associates.”

“Arrest him? Already?”

Harry gave her a smile. “We’ve been trying to get enough evidence to arrest Greg for years. He’s always eluded us, but now, with your testimony and all of the information you have, he won’t be able to wiggle out.”

“Oh. Good,” she said hollowly. “And we’re sure he won’t be able to find me? To hurt me?”
