“I just wish I could prepare you better for what is about to happen.”

“You make it sound like war or something.”

He snorted. “Oh, it might just be a war. My siblings will fall over each other, every last one trying to be the most annoying. Don’t believe anything they say about me.”

Amelia giggled and moved across the plane to sit beside him. “What do you think will happen? Your family will say something that will make me run away?”

Wilder sighed. “No, but they will try to make me look like a…”

“A grumpy old wolf who is lucky to have me?” she ventured.

He laughed. “When you put it like that…”

“I’m sure I will get along great with your family. They’re your people, and I just happen to love you very much, as I’m sure they do.”

“In their own way,” he added.

Amelia kissed him sweetly. “Don’t be so nervous. It’ll all be all right.”

Of course, Wilder should have known that his family would go all out to make him uncomfortable.

When they pulled up to the Wolverton manor house, the whole family was waiting on the lawn. Ryland and Canaan held a banner that read,Welcome home to our wayward alpha. There was an archway of balloons too.

“Oh, my,” Amelia laughed when she saw it all. “You weren’t kidding.”

“Nope,” he said before opening the door for her. “I am sorry in advance.”

“Wilder,” Mom cried. “I’d completely forgotten what you look like. You’re so handsome.”

“Hi, Mom,” he grumbled as she gave him a big hug. “Mom, this is Amelia Sunderland. Amelia, my mother.”

“Please, call me Valerie. It’s so nice to meet you, Amelia.”

“It’s nice to meet you too.”

Next came Ryland and his mate Caroline, then Canaan and his lady, Elizabeth. Rylee and her mate Kyle were nowhere to be seen.

“Your sister went into labor a few hours ago,” Mom explained. “Kyle will give us a call when the baby is born.”

“I thought you wanted to be there,” Wilder pointed out.

Mom waved him off. “Your sister didn’t want anyone in the room.”

“She only changed her mind about a dozen times,” Canaan said. “You’re probably familiar with that side of the Wolverton temper, Amelia. I bet this one changes his mind all the time. Maybe that’s why he’s so grumpy all the time.”

Canaan and Ryland continued to tease Wilder through Amelia as the whole gang went into the house’s enormous library. Wilder stayed close to his mate, scared that she would take off at a run as soon as she was given the chance.

She didn’t, though.

She stayed by his side, taking the jabs with good humor. She even managed to stump his brothers a couple of times. All in all, his mate fit in with his family. Perfectly.

At dinner time when their group separated into two, Wilder was more than confident he could leave Amelia alone with his mother and new sisters-in-law while he went into the kitchen with his brothers and father to get dinner ready.

“Your girl is awesome,” Ryland said as he took a few steaks out of the refrigerator.

“Agreed,” Canaan lifted his beer in salutation. “Sucks she’s been through the wringer.”

“We might have to protect her a little longer,” Wilder explained. “Europol promised us that she wouldn’t need to testify, but you just never know with those things, do you?”
