Page 6 of Endless Summer

Norah sat back in her bed and sighed. “Fine,” she agreed. “But only if you’re good with my word being alligator.”

“I’m good with it,” he agreed. He walked around her bed to his own empty bed and got into it. He looked over at her as she settled under her covers, and just like every other night that he spent sleeping in the same room together with her, he wished that he was under those same covers with her, holding her against his already unruly cock. He loved to watch her sleep and God, those soft little moans and sighs she breathed in her sleep made him hard.

“Thanks for helping me out with my mother tomorrow, Norah,” Colter said.

“No problem,” Norah breathed, “night, Colter,” she said.

“Good night, Norah,” Colter returned. It was going to be another long night of him wishing for something that he just wasn’t ready to ask Norah for. Sooner or later, he’d get up the nerve to just tell her that he wanted her. Tonight wasn’t that night—but there was always tomorrow.

Norah

Norah wasn’t sure why she had agreed to go with Colter to visit his mother. Maybe it was her curiosity about him and where he came from. Or maybe she just wanted to be around him. Heck, it was probably the latter, but she wasn’t about to admit that to him. She was just happy that he agreed to let her tag along, even if it meant that she’d have to play catch up for work later. Sleep could wait, but hanging out with Colter was worth losing some sleep.

They got up just after nine and took turns in the bathroom getting dressed. She was sure to ask him if he had everything that he needed before he went into the shower, and the amusement in his eyes caught her off guard. She was sure that he had forgotten his body wash on purpose, just to be able to call her into the bathroom, but she’d never be able to prove that. Even if she could, Colter’s little plan to get her to see him naked wasn’t going to work. She didn’t want what he was offering. Hell—that was a blatant lie, but she also knew that giving into her basic desires for Colter would only end up with her being sad and lonely at the end of the summer. She didn’t want a summer fling and Norah certainly didn’t want what her two friends had. She wasn’t ready for that kind of commitment with a man. The only long-term relationship she had ever had with anyone—or anything, in this case, was science. She knew that made her sound lonely and sad, but she just didn’t care.

She quickly showered and dressed, when it was her turn to use the bathroom, opting to pull her long, dark hair up in a messy wet bun to let it finish drying. She never wore much makeup but decided to put on a little bit today, to put her best foot forward. Norah knew that she was being silly, but for some reason, she wanted to make a good impression on Colter’s mother.

Colter called an Uber and had it there waiting when she got to the lobby of the hotel. Norah tried not to act nervous, but there wasn’t any way around it. “You okay?” he asked.

“For some reason, I’m a bit nervous about meeting your mother,” she admitted.

He chuckled, “Join the club. That woman always makes me nervous too.” Norah felt herself relax a bit as she giggled at Colter’s statement. “We won’t stay long,” he promised. “All I need to do is make an appearance and then, we can make up an excuse and leave. Remember, you still have your safe word.”

“Right, alligator,” she said. “And it’s not a safe word. It’s the word that I will work into a sentence if I’m feeling uncomfortable and want to leave.”

“Same difference,” he teased. “That’s what a safe word is for too.”

“I wouldn’t know,” she grumbled. “As I have never been in the position to use one.” Colter finding out that she was a virgin was the worst possible thing ever. She shouldn’t have been so loud when she was trying to convince her friends that she was good with being a virgin. Having him overhear their conversation was the last thing she needed or wanted, but he did agree to help her out and convince her friends that they were an item. Maybe they’d leave her in peace after they presented themselves as a couple. Sure, Savannah and Ginger would have questions, but she’d be able to handle them.

“This is her place,” he said to the Uber driver, pointing to an apartment building that kind of looked out of place between all the other skyscrapers that lined the skyline. “This is one of the oldest apartment buildings in the city,” he said as if reading her mind. “But it’s been completely refurbished, and they’ve sold the units to the tenants as condominiums, so she owns the place. I don’t have to worry so much about her anymore, but I did like it when she had a Super to come around to fix things. Now, I just hire a handyman to check on her twice a year. He replaces light bulbs and all that jazz so that I don’t have to run up here to do it for her.”

Norah nodded and smiled as he held his hand out to her. She looked it over as though it somehow offended her, and he huffed out his breath. “Ready?” he asked. “You should slide over here so that you can get out on my side and avoid traffic.”

“Oh, sure,” she said, taking his offered hand. She suddenly felt very silly about raising an eyebrow at his offer like she did. Keeping her guard up was just something that Norah did naturally. She’d have to work on being that way around Colter especially if she wanted their friends to believe that they were actually a couple.

She slid across the seat and Colter helped her out of the car, turning back to shut the door and thank the driver. Nora followed him into the building and waited for him to buzz up to his mother that they were there. Her voice filled the lobby as she asked who it was, and Colter seemed a bit flustered as he answered that it was just him and a friend. His mom let them up and all she could think about on the ride to the seventh floor on the elevator was if his mother knew that she was coming with him.

“Did you tell your mom that I was coming with you?” she asked.

He smiled down at her, and she immediately knew his answer. “I told her that I was bringing a friend with me,” he said as if it wasn’t a big deal. “It’s easier that way.”

“How so?” she asked. “I mean, we are friends, right?”

“Of course,” he agreed. “I just didn’t tell her that you’re a woman because my mother would automatically assume that we’re together.” She wanted to ask him why that would be a bad thing, but the elevator doors opened before she could.

Norah followed Colter down the hallway to the door marked 705 and waited for him to knock. “Now’s your chance to back out, Norah,” he whispered.

“I’m good,” she lied. She felt anything but good as he raised his hand to knock on his mother’s front door. She felt sick to her stomach.

“Liar,” he whispered as he pounded on his mother’s door. His mom quickly pulled her front door open and looked Norah over.

“This is your friend?” his mother asked. “Did you forget to say, ‘Girlfriend?'” his mother asked.

“No mom, I did not. Norah is a friend from DC, and we have a work obligation to go to after this, so she graciously agreed to tag along to visit you,” Colter lied.

His mother didn’t seem to buy his explanation for her tagging along but ushered them both into her place.

“Now who’s the liar?” Norah whispered to Colter. He shot her a look and she rolled her eyes at him. “You have a lovely place,” Norah said to his mother.
