“But I did hurt you, Pearl, and I will spend the rest of my life making it up to you.”

“Over the past week, I’ve learned that there are two sides to every story. I only knew one part, and that was all I cared about, without asking for your side. I’m sorry for that.”

“There is nothing you need to apologize for,” I told her, though it wasn’t the full truth. I wanted her to tell me everything, then I would do the same.

“I don’t want to go forward with the past still between us.” She pulled away from my chest so she could see my face.

“I don’t want that either,” I agreed, leaning forward until my forehead was touching hers. “I’m not going anywhere.”

Those last words were a promise I intended to keep. I wasn’t about to let her go without a fight. Not now. Not Ever.

Chapter Twenty-One

Pearl

I was wrapped up in Rylan, and I couldn’t think of any other place I would rather be. Right here was where I was supposed to be. My arm had been tingling ever since Rylan approached the clearing. It wasn’t as jarring as it had once been. It had become quite comforting.

Rylan’s forehead was pressed to mine, and I was extremely aware that we were both naked. I thought it might be uncomfortable, but it was actually the opposite. I couldn’t pinpoint what it was, but I knew without a shadow of a doubt that this was where I belonged. Where we belonged.

My lip quivered as I fought the emotions that were threatening to overwhelm me again. I was sick of crying, tired of the distance between us that we had both caused. I wanted it gone, but I knew the only way for that to happen was for me to come clean and tell him what happened. I wrapped my arms around his neck, keeping him close while I told him everything.

“A week or so ago, an old wolf by the name of Faela approached me. She was disheveled and close to death, but she had this light in her eyes that spoke to me. Before she died, she passed her mission to me. That was when my hair turned white, and these marks appeared on my arm. She didn’t give me any details, so I had to figure them out on my own.” I paused, licking my lips, wondering what I should say next. “I was in denial. No way was I chosen to be something. The Moon Spirit had obviously made a mistake. I couldn’t be what they wanted me to be.”

“Alpha Seeker,” Rylan whispered, his gray-green eyes unsurprised.

“Yes,” I whispered, knowing he had to know about Faela and what she had been. I held him tighter as I told him about the dream I had with the Moon Spirit, how I’d researched everything I could find about Faela and the Alpha Seeker.

“So, your search led you to the restricted section,” Rylan stated, and I nodded my head.

“I went there to learn everything I could, but I hadn’t expected for you to be there.”

“I wasn’t expecting you to show up either.” Rylan chuckled, his hand moving my hair off my shoulder. “So, you’re the new Alpha Seeker.”

I tucked my head under his chin so I couldn’t see his face. It was a shock, I’m sure, but if what Faela and the Moon Spirit had said was true, then I had already found the alpha that would unite the packs. I wasn’t sure how to tell him that though.

“What now?” His hands cupped my waist, making me hyperaware of his nearness.

“I have to findthealpha,” I replied vaguely.

“And the alpha will unite the packs?” Rylan said, his thumbs rubbing my skin in circles, making my nipples pucker and my core tighten.

“Yes,” I said breathlessly.

“What about your mate?” he asked, and I frowned at his question then pushed away from him again.

“What about him?” I wondered, my eyebrows rising.

“Isn’t your mate and the alpha the same person?”

My eyes narrowed as Rylan began to fidget under my scrutiny. “How do you know that?”

“You’re not the only one who has done their research,” he said, laughing softly before planting a kiss on my cheek.

“Then, you must know…” I trailed off, my face growing hot with my blush.

“That I’m your mate? I’ve always known.”

My eyes met his with surprise, but I didn’t find any humor on his face. He was completely serious.
