“Right.” She giggled. “I’ll see you at the house later.”

“See you.” I stared at her perfect, round ass as she walked away, already knowingexactlywhat I would be doing later when the storms rolled in.

“Where’s Cheyenne?” I asked Hazel as I slid out of my dirty cowboy boots, opening the door to let Takoda out to go potty. “I figured she’d be outside, but she’s not.”

Hazel gave me an amused smile. “She went upstairs a little bit ago, saying she needed to do some laundry or something. You know how she is… doesn’t want anyone to do anything for her.”

“Ah yeah, that’s how she is.” I slipped by her, leaving her there in the mudroom where she was digging through the pantry. “I’ll see ya.”

“Yeah, can’t tell what you’re racing through the house for—it’s like you’re getting laid finally or something,” she called after me.

I ignored the stifled giggle coming from the mudroom as I trotted through the house, hoping not to run into any other distractions. My socks thudded against the wood as I headed up the stairs, my heart thumping from the speed and anticipation. As soon as I made it to the top, I was met by her beautiful, deep brown eyes—and a laugh.

“Why are you running through the house? Are you okay?” Cheyenne had a basket of damp laundry cradled in her arms.

“Are you okay?” I huffed, gesturing to the basket of wet clothes. “You know those aren’t dry, right?”

“Yeah, that’s what happens when there’s no dryer. I don’t know if you’re aware, but those machines require power.”

“Oh, right. I forgot we didn’t have any power.” I shook my head as I laughed before reaching out and taking the basket from her arms. “I want to show you something.”

“If it’s your dick, it can wait until I hang these up to dry.”

I rolled my eyes, nodding for her to follow me as I toted the basket back to my bedroom. “As much as I do plan to attack that hot body of yours, this has nothing to do with that.” I opened my bedroom door, wandering across the gray bamboo floors. My room was different compared to the rest of the house—other than the floors. It had a cabin feel and smelled of cedarwood.

“I can’t believe I’ve never been in here,” Cheyenne said from behind me. “I like this—can we switch rooms?”

“No, but youcouldstay in here if you wanted, so I don’t have to sleep in your room anymore.” I eyed her, noting her cheeks turning red. “But anyway, come on.” I set the basket on my bed and headed for the French doors leading out to a balcony. I pulled one open, gesturing for Cheyenne to walk out.

“This is insane,” she mumbled as she walked through, her eyes scanning the broad horizon and gentle hills of Texas. “And look at the storm.” She gasped, pointing to the dark gray cumulonimbus clouds rolling in from the southwest. “This is amazing. I haven’t seen a view like this in so long. We used to watch the storms roll in on the plains with my sister at her best friend’s family ranch.”

“I had a feeling you’d appreciate the view.” My voice was soft as I stood beside her at the white ornate railings. I covered her hand with mine, giving it a slight squeeze. “I know I’m an asshole, but I’m glad you’re here.”

She looked over at me, her face contorting with emotion. “That might be the nicest thing you’ve ever said to me, but I’m glad I’m here, too. It’s nice to see that some families actually work.”

A lump in my throat formed as I felt the weight of her words, but I brushed it off, focusing on the feeling of her head against my shoulder. “These rains are going to cause a lot more flooding.”

Cheyenne let out a soft sigh. “Yeah, I know. It’s just so crazy how something so beautiful can be so devastating.”

Just like you.

My heart squeezed, reminded that she would eventually leave. “It’ll pass though, and things will eventually go back to normal.” I kissed the top of her head, breathing in the lavender vanilla mix. The softness of her dark hair tickled my lips as she pulled away, tilting her head back to look up at me.

“Thanks for showing me this,” she murmured before rising on her tiptoes and placing a kiss on my jaw. A sharp breath escaped my lips, my body jumping to life at the softness of her lips against my skin. I turned my head, catching her mouth with mine, gently nipping her bottom lip. A light moan escaped from her, and I swooped her up into my arms, carrying her inside...

Right to my bed.

ChapterNineteen

Cheyenne

Wade tossed me onto the bed, pulling my black sweats down and tossing them off to the side. “I’ve wanted you all fucking day, Chey.” He began stripping himself down, tossing his work shirt and t-shirt into the hamper in the corner of the room.

I admired him, my eyes drinking in the sight of his toned upper body and his strong hands undoing his belt. Sitting up on the bed, I pulled my t-shirt and sports bra over my head in one shot. My breasts bounced free, the cool air in the room stimulating my nipples. I flung my top to the floor, leaving me in only my black thong underwear.

“You’re gorgeous,” Wade groaned, dropping his pants and boxer briefs. His erect cock drew my eyes, and I felt the moisture building between my legs just at the sight of him. His eyes raked over me as he climbed onto the bed. He leaned over me, kissing my breasts and sucking my nipple into his mouth. Pleasure washed over me at the stimulation, the tingle of arousal growing to pure warmth as his hands ran along my skin.

I moaned as he left my chest, his hands replacing his mouth as his head traveled downward. Instinctually, I spread my legs for him, his lips trailing further and further. “Oh mygod,Wade,” I cried out when he finally made it, slipping his tongue between my folds. He palmed my breasts, squeezing my nipple as he buried his face in my wetness.
