“Great. I’m going to take a little nap.”

“You slept in and you still need a nap?”

“I’ve been reading this book the entire time. My eyes are tired.” She laughs. “Plus this whole private jet thing you got going on is making flying very comfortable.”

“Get used to it.”

“I don’t think I will ever get used to private jets or this life with you.”

“You better, baby. I’m never letting you go. I hope you know that.”

She offers me a smile, telling me that this is forever before she dozes off in the chair. Over the next hour, I shoot off a few text messages to my contacts on the ground to make sure everything is good to go for arrival. We’re staying at a quaint apartment that has perfect views of the Eiffel Tower that she is just going to lust over.

Seeing Avery smile is my goal every day I get to open my eyes with her wrapped in my arms.

I’ve never been so deeply in love with another human the way I am with her. She completes me, makes me feel whole. She never ceases to take my breath away with just one look. Whether it’s when she first wakes up, after she’s showered and ready for the day, or when she’s falling apart in my arms after making love—she’s it for me.

Asking her to marry me for real might have been a little too quick from the outside looking in, but I don’t believe any of our fake engagement was really ever thatfake. Everything I’ve felt has been real. It just took us some time for us to figure it out.

When the plane finally lands and she wakes up from her nap, I wrap her in my arms before we exit onto the tarmac. Bringing my lips to the shell of her ear, I whisper, “I love you so much, Avery.”

“I love you too, babe.” She tightens her hold around my waist. “Are you going to tell me where we are finally?”

I smile down at her, pressing a kiss to her lips. “How about I show you?”

She nods as I guide her towards the open doors. I don’t look to see what we’re facing because I’m looking at her. I’m always looking at her.

Her eyes widen, and immediately, I see them start to glisten as she takes in the twinkling lights of the Eiffel Tower in the distance as they glow in the night sky. Her mouth falls open, unable to form words before her eyes bounce from me and back to the tower.

“Is this real?” she says, clearing her throat as if emotions are clogged there.

“It’s real, baby. Welcome to Paris.” I see a tear trickle down her cheek and I brush my knuckles across them to wipe them away. “These better be happy tears.”

“The happiest, Marc,” she says through a small laugh. “You brought me to Paris?”

“This was your dream right?”

“Yes. I just can’t believe you remembered.”

“I remember everything you’ve ever said, Ave. I want to give you every single dream you have. No matter how crazy or insane it might be.” I bring my thumb up to her bottom lip and brush across it. “If it puts this smile on your face, I’ll do whatever you want.”

“I don’t need the fancy things in life, Marc.” She throws herself into me, wrapping her arms around my neck for a tight embrace. “I have you. You’re all I’ll ever need in life.”

“Thank god you’ve already said yes to marrying me. Because if you hadn’t, I would drop down on one knee right now to ask again.”

“I’m not opposed to you dropping to your knees for me.” She smirks.

“You’re incorrigible, baby. Let’s go. There’s more to the surprise.”

I exit the plane, leaving her standing there gaping at the fact that I plan to drop more surprises on her lap.

“What more could there—”

Her words are cut short when she sees a petite figure emerge from a blacked-out town car waiting for us.

“Mom!” she screams, rushing to her.

See, I didn’t miss a single thing she said. She wanted to see the city, but she also wanted her mom to be here. The goal she had was a goal for the both of them to see Paris together. How could I not make this happen? The woman who raised the love of my life deserves this trip as much as Avery does. She raised her to be the strongest, most independent person I’ve ever met.
