My blood is mixed with anger, jealousy… pain as thoughts of Becky burning me so fucking bad come barreling into the forefront of my brain. Remembering that moment in her apartment so fucking vividly.

She wouldn’t… would she?

Avery is not Becky.

She told me she was seeing a guy named Dean casually, but she also told me that she broke it off with him.

So why is he calling here?

Why is he calling her his girlfriend?

“Hello? The fuck. Are you there?” Dean raises his voice as if I can’t hear him.

“What do you need her for?”

“I just told you,” he rasps. “I’m her boyfriend and I need to get in touch with her.”

“You know, it’s interesting really.” I pause as the pain is quickly transferred back to a blinding rage. “Avery has never mentioned a boyfriend to me.”

“Why would she?” He laughs. The fucker laughs. “You’re her boss. She doesn’t need to disclose her personal life to you.”

“When was the last time you’ve seen her,Dean?” I draw out his name like it’s poison slipping across my tongue.

“Does it matter?” he tosses back.

“It does. Because if you’ve seen her recently then you probably noticed a very expensive piece of jewelry on her left ring finger.” I’m such a bastard that I smirk into the phone as if he can see me. The other end of the line is silent. He’s got nothing. So I decide to push it more. “I don’t recallyoubeing the person who put it on her finger though.”

“Again. She doesn’t need to share her personal life with her fucking boss. How do you know that I didn’t put it there?” I feel the anger in his question.

Now you know how I feel, dick head.

“Herfucking bossalso happens to be the man who put that ring on her finger.”

“W-What. No. She. No. She’s not engaged.”

“She’s very much engaged. The 4-carat diamond ring on her finger proves that to be very true.”

“That fucking slut,” he mumbles. Low enough that I know he didn’t want me to hear it.

Except I did.

And now I’m seeing fucking red.

“Say that again?”

“Did you know that you’re marrying a slut?”

“Listen to me closely,Dean. Let me hear you call her that again and I will end you. Understood?” When he doesn’t respond, I check to see if the line went dead. “Keep my fucking fiancé’s name out of your mouth.”

“We’ll see about that.” He ends the call with his arrogant laughter ringing in my ears.

It’s quickly replaced by a voice that I normally would welcome when I’m feeling like this, however I can’t hear it right now.

“Morning, boss man.”

Avery saunters in the reception area with a smile on her face, and I can’t even look at her right now.

I can’t get the vision of red… rage… and jealousy out of my head.
