“Why?” I act oblivious, as if I don’t know the reason behind that.

I think he’s going to leave without an answer to my question when he opens the door to walk out. Except he stops to look back at me with the door knob in his hand. “Because I’m going to fuck you until the only name you can say is mine.”

I’ve had plenty of time to think about how I handled the whole Dean situation. I’ve barely slept since then, stewing over the way I reacted. It was wrong, I know this. I just could not for the life of me stop the rage that took over. My brain was screaming toshut it down, but my mouth just kept spewing ugliness to her.

“Listen.” I nervously run my hands through my hair. “There’s something we have to talk about.”

She nods as she wipes the corner of her mouth with her napkin after finishing her steak dinner.

“First, I got you set up with that real estate course. You start at the end of September.

“Wow.” She gasps. “That was really fast.”

“Is that okay with you?”

“That’s more than okay, Marc. You have no idea how excited I'm for this next step. I almost feel bad doing it, though.”

“Why?” I’m taken back by her admission right now. “This was part of the deal.”

“Yes. It was. But with everything that’s happened… I just feel bad. You’ve given me more than I anticipated with this ordeal.”

I sit stunned in silence. What have I given her?

She waves her hands in the air cutting off whatever is about to come next. “What else was there? You said, ‘somethings’, plural.”

I swallow the lump in my throat because fuck Bill and his plans. I want to learn more about what I’ve given her. “We have a trip planned for the first weekend in August.” I watch her as she gives me a questioning glare. “Bill has a house in the mountains and wants to take a weekend trip to his cabin.”

“I’m not sure that’s such a good idea.”

I cock my head back in question. “Why?”

“Do you think it’s a good idea for us to be stuck in a cabin together? We can’t exactly stay in two separate rooms in their cabin. They’re going to know immediately that something isn’t right.”

Oops. I must have left out the detail that it’s not just the two of them. I bite my lip to try and hide the tension in my body. “Todd and his fiancé will be there, too.”

She groans in her seat. “I can’t stand that guy. It blows my mind that this entire thing is between you andhim. He looks like a fucking toad.”

I can’t help the laugh that comes out of me. Even the couple at the table next to us looks over with a funny stare. “He does look like a toad, doesn’t he?”

“He does,” she says and joins me in the laughter.

“I know it’s not ideal. But I will try to figure out the room situation.”

“Okay.”

Okay? That’s all she’s got? My palms feel clammy. She shows no emotion to this right now and it’s making me feel edgy.

“Is that good with you?”

“This is what I signed up for, isn’t it?”

“I don’t know,” I admit. “After what happened Thursday… things have been…”

She cuts me off with a small laugh as she reaches across the table and places a hand on top of mine, sending heat racing across my skin. “That’s all you. Nothing is weird here on my end regarding that. If anything…” she trails off, raking her hands through her perfectly curled blonde hair so that it's out of her face.

“If anything?”

“If anything, you’re making this really easy.”
