Kerian had to make the rounds, trying to establish a good relationship with his pack for the future. The burden of leading them is now a little lighter. He loved them. He took care of them, just like he took care of River and me.

My wolves and I had a long talk about children. I’ve always wanted them, and they admitted they did too. River thought he would never have kids, and he worried that he wouldn’t be a good dad, but being a part of our little family has eased those fears. We agreed to think about adoption in the future. We aren’t ready now, we want to have some time for ourselves, but we are open to it.

Our friends are coming to run with us today, and I couldn’t be more excited. We ran with the pack last night, and it was amazing. Today almost meant more to me because these people excepted me as one of their own, whether I was human or wolf. Harmony and her mates are excited to run with us. Serenity is coming with Ryker and Bash. They don’t shift, but they can run with us still. Logan is also coming. Bishop politely declined. I could see the worry on

River’s face—he feared being back at the games brought back many memories for him. It was difficult for him, but River is giving him the space he needs.

I invited Marie, but she declined. She didn’t want to be the odd one out. I understood, but I promised we would go out together soon.

My shift is coming easier to me, which I am grateful for. The magic is still there. Every time I turn into my wolf, I am amazed that this is my life now.

“Are you ready, cupcake?” River saunters outside, eating a breakfast burrito. He’s wearing his sweatpants and nothing else. I have to consciously try not to drool over his yummy body. I was taking a moment, drinking a cup of coffee in the warm morning sun before all the excitement started.

“Yes,” I say. I snuggle into his side when he puts his arm around me.

“Not too hungover from last night?” he asks, raising a brow while taking a bite.

“Nope. I love the fast metabolism; I burned it off quickly,” I say, laughing.

“It’s a good thing. Otherwise, you wouldn’t be able to walk today,” Kerian says as he joins us.

“Hush,” I say, pinching his side. He rubs his skin but cracks a grin. Kerian is more carefree. He engages more easily with us.

“You know he’s right,” River laughs. “I wonder how Raquel is doing today. She was drinking them faster than you.”

“I’m proud of you,” Kerian says.

“Why?” I ask curiously.

“You were good to her, took her apology, and welcomed her into your life.” He kisses me. “The mark of a good leader.” I give him a soft smile in thanks.

“How did it go with Harmony?” I ask. I encouraged him to talk to his sister and tell her the truth about the day he left her. It has weighed on him.

“Really good. She was glad I told her what had happened. She said she didn’t blame me before she knew everything, but I think we can move on. I can move on.” He was up early and called her to talk before the run.

“I’m glad. Are they on their way?” I hook my finger in the waistband of Kerian’s pants. It would be so easy to pull the sweatpants off. I love that my wolves are so casual. When they are at work, it’s jeans and t-shirts, but they don’t bother with the shirts at home, opting for comfort instead.

“Should be about an hour,” Kerian says, looking down at my hand. “What are you thinking, darlin’?”

“I thought we could start without them. Go to the water,” I say suggestively.

“River, what do you think?” Kerian asks.

“I say we race there,” River responds. “I’ve been picturing the two of you under the waterfall. I want my turn,” he grins wickedly.

“Whoever catches me first gets to go first,” I taunt, walking down the porch, shedding my clothes as I go.

“Deal, cupcake.” River rips off his pants.

“Do we run shifted or human?” Kerian asks.

“We run as wolves and shift once we get there. There will be no hairy sex, wolf boy,” I scold.

“I didn’t say anything.” Kerian lifts his hands innocently.

“But you were thinking it,” River mutters.

“Do I get a head start?” I ask.
