“Now might not be the time to get into it,” I say.

“Another time.”

“Sure,” I agree.

Tabitha parks in front of a small building away from the others. We are in a part of the city where half of the businesses are closed. I pull out my camera as she checks her reflection in the mirror.

There isn’t a sign on the building. It looks closed, but she gets out of the car. I snap a couple of pictures, making sure to zoom in. She knocks on the door and waits, looking over her shoulder, but in the opposite direction of where we are parked. A man opens the door, leans in close, and kisses her cheek. I get a dozen pictures before she follows him inside.

“The husband won’t be happy,” I say. “We still have to get more evidence, but it’s not looking good.” I sit my camera in my lap.

“I know him,” Bash grunts.

“What?” I ask.

“I know who the man is. I’ve met him before. He runs a club for those that want to explore a darker side of sex. I went to his club. I saw things that sickened me. He claims he’s dominant. He is not. He gives no pleasure to his partners. He abuses them. Ryker and I shut down his club. Obviously, he found another location and has been building business again. The princess has no idea what she’s getting into.” He looks at my shocked face. “So, no, the husband won’t be happy, but that’s nothing compared to two furious vampires.”

Chapter Seven

Bash

“There is no fucking way she will be anywhere near that prick,” I rage, pacing in front of Ryker.

“Have you told her that?” he asks.

Marie is upstairs with Serenity. I made her drive directly here after we saw Tabitha leave the club. She wasn’t thrilled with my strongly-worded suggestion.

“Not yet,” I admit. Ryker came to my place so we could talk without Marie hearing.

“Good luck with that. In my experience, the women chosen for us don’t like being told what to do.”

“You would do the same thing,” I insist.

“I would try, but then Serenity would give me those eyes, and I would cave,” Ryker says with absolutely no regret.

“We are not at that point,” I say.

“Where are you at?”

“She seems to like me for some reason,” I start.

“That’s strange,” Ryker mutters, rubbing his chin.

“She is taking everything well. Too well.” I’m used to humans being cautious around me. My presence alone usually causes pause. I’m big, covered in tattoos, and my white hair is odd. Vampires exude an allure but at the same time, humans fear us but don’t know why.

“You would rather her be unwilling?” he asks, surprised.

“Of course not,” I deny. “She should want to know about me. She won't want to stay when she knows what I’ve done and who I was.”

“That’s why.”

“What?”

“That’s why she won’t ask. She doesn’t want to push, and she can see you are itching to find a reason to leave her,” he says.

“No,” I whisper.

“I’ve spent years with you. Remember who you are talking to,” Ryker says, staring pointedly.
