“Are you two fucking now?”

“Caden,” Ethan snaps next to me, not liking that I’m pointing out that his ex-girlfriend is obviously fucking his boss. “Can you focus on the task at hand?”

“We just told you Xi killed two of our dealers. Beat them to death.” Jade pauses for effect but doesn’t understand I don’t care. “Lea was there, she saw everything. Said he only spared her so she could run back to us and let us know.”

“That guy,” I snort. “He just hates being alive.”

“He’s rubbing in our face that he doesn’t give a shit about anything you said. And how did the fucker even survive three stab wounds?” Sawyer sneers.

I can’t really hear him. My eyes are back on the picture of Billie.

Caden: Baby, do I tell you enough that you’re the most beautiful woman I’ve ever seen?

She replies right away.

Little bee: What about all the ones you haven’t seen yet? What if they’re more beautiful than me?

I chuckle to myself, biting my lower lip as I reply.

Caden: I don’t want to see them. I’ve got everything I need.

Caden: I want to bite that pouty lip and kiss it better.

Little bee: I’m not working tonight. We should meet up. There are a lot of people at my house, though. We can’t go there.

And there are people in my living room currently scheming against NSC. No way to meet here either.

“…den.Caden!” My eyes flick up, Jade’s furious gaze on me. “What the fuck are you doing on your phone?”

I shrug. “Ignoring you.” Returning to the question I last heard, I add, “He survived because I didn’t want him to die. That’s all.”

“Yeah,” Jade scoffs. “‘Cause you didn’t want to hurt Billie Scott’s feelings.” She puts on a fake pout and tilts her head. “You’re so good to your girlfriend.”

“Not my girlfriend,” I lie a little too quickly.

She is. She’s my girlfriend, my future wife, my everything. Not that any of them need to know. I don’t want to put her in any more danger than she already is. What’s pretending we’re not together when we have the rest of our lives to make up for it?

Ethan tries to come in as the voice of reason, his calm demeanor helping to keep my own anger at bay. “You might think all these problems are beneath you because you’re so desperate to get out of this town. But if NSC takes over, you’ll be dead before you even finish college.”

I huff, running a hand through my already messy hair as I lock eyes with Sawyer. “We were never able to take over the alley behind the cemetery. Xi holds on to it just as hard as he holds his dick when he jerks off over his stepsister. Why do you want it now?”

“To prove a point,” Sawyer admonishes as he stands up. “This town belongs to us.”

“Don’t let NSC make you believe they can start a war on us, Sawyer. We already know they’re useless fucks, but your pride is a very dangerous thing.”

“My pride? What about your fear? You don’t want to see what’s happening right before you.” He takes on a girly voice. “You’re too scared it’ll break you and your girlfriend up.” Hardening his voice again, he adds, “What will happen when she chooses her crew over you, and you’re too pussy-whipped to get over it?”

“Not my girlfriend,” I rebuke a little harsher this time. I get up and slowly walk to him.

Chest to chest, he’s glaring at me while I feel the glint of malice glowing in my eyes. “Let me make something clear. The only thing I’ve ever been scared of is myself. Because no one can stop me when I lose control. You know that, right, Sawyer?”

I feel the need he has to take a step back when his body tenses from alarm. “Don’t push me,” I say with a chilling tone. “Don’t make me lose control.” I notice goosebumps appearing on his neck as I observe him. Bringing my gaze back to his, I smile. “I don’t give a shit what you do with NSC, but don’t waste precious energy and resources on them. There’s no point in our men dying. We already have the upper hand. Let them come to us if they want. They’ll quickly realize it’s a suicide mission.”

Looking down at the phone in my hand, I notice another text from Billie. “I gotta go. Tutoring and all.”

“I thought you stopped tutoring,” Jade calls my way as I head to the front door.

“Mind your own business, Jade,” I throw back as I start typing back to Billie. “Who knows what I’ll do to you once I’m truly sick of you.”
