So. Fucking. Sweet.

I swallow the tears, letting anger take over instead.

I’m done letting everyone control and use me.

I’m done not fighting back.

It’s not Xi that ends up breaking my heart. It implodes from the pressure the rage is putting on it. It doesn’t break into pieces.

It turns to dust.

Without thinking, I barge into the room, ready to crush him. I come face to face with Xi and Zara. He’s showered and dressed now. She’s right in front of him, between his legs, dabbing a cut on his cheek with cotton while he’s sitting on a bench.

God, the way my heart twists painfully. I want to die on the spot, and my words get stuck down my throat.

“Alex,” he says in surprise. He’s obviously confused, but then he pushes Zara away, getting up instantly.

I look around only to see they’re not alone. No, there are two guys and another girl in here. I recognize Logan because he stopped by Xi’s house when I was there before.

My lips curl. All of them were plotting against me the whole time. I bet none of them thought that they should have watched what they said in this warehouse. It’s too far from my pretty life. Too dangerous for sweet Alex to ever set foot here.

The confusion doesn’t stay long on Xi’s face. It turns into anger as he strides toward me, grabbing my arm and looking down at me. “What the fuck are you doing here?” he hisses in my face.

“I could ask you the same question,” I spit back. “I thought you wereworking. New job, I see?”

“Alexandra,” he says in that voice of his that brings goosebumps to my skin. “You better go home right fucking now.”

“You’re an asshole. I’m really stupid, butfuck, you’re an asshole, Xi.”

With his right hand, he grabs the back of my head by the hair, forcing me on my toes as he leans down. “Go home, or I swear to God I’m going to have a field day spanking your ass later.”

Rather than trying to escape him, I wrap my fingers around his left biceps and push up the short sleeve of his t-shirt.

I can barely refrain from gasping when I see the tattoo of a dagger on his otherwise bare arm. It’s right there, on his left shoulder. Exactly as Ella described it, the letters NSC are tattooed on the hilt.

Xi is part of the North Shore Crew, just like my friends had warned me. And instead of listening to them, I listened to his lies.

“You fucking liar,” I seethe, tears threatening to fall any second.

“Alex,” he rasps. He looks around, clearly changing his mind about me needing to leave when he realizes how serious this is. “Let’s talk.”

“There’s no need to talk.” My tone is flat, my heart beating slowly as I feel a darkness overtake me. “I heard everything.”

He pauses, the shock so evident in his eyes. He thought I hadn’t heard their conversation.

The bastard was going to keep on lying.

“I can explain.”

“It’s unfortunate I don’t want your explanation. Let me go.”

I twist, but his grip doesn’t relent.

“I wanted to tell you, Alex.” He looks at his friends behind him again. “I can’t do this here.”

“Xi, let me go,” I hiss. “We’re done. We’re over, we—”

His other hand grabs my jaw, his fingers digging into my skin. “You have every right to be angry, but you’re going to take that shit back right now.”
