“Tie your hands behind your back.”

I’m forced to let go of the covers, and the second I do so, his gaze goes to my tits. The pale globes are so obvious in the darkness of the room, barely protected by the flimsy lace.

I watch his mouth twist. “Do all the Stoneview bitches sleep like they’re gonna pose for Playboy in the morning?”

Stoneview. The reason he’s in my house tonight. A town only inhabited by billionaires and millionaires. Where the average income is higher than all the other cities in the state of Maryland combined.

Our cars are unaffordable to the usual rich person, and our houses are too expensive to sell by average real estate agents. Our prep school is so pricey only we can afford it.

We’re the elite of the elite. The richest of the rich. Closed off from the outside world, the kings and queens of nepotism and privilege.

Our crime rate is next to zero, our town inaccessible, our mansions gated and protected. I have never heard of a home invasion in Stoneview.

Until tonight.

“See,” he taunts, “Now I asked you a question, so I expect an answer.”

I gulp and shake my head. “N-no.”

“Just you, then?” he keeps going as I struggle to slip the zip ties around my wrists. It’s awkward in this position and my hands are starting to shake.

“It was for my boyfriend,” I whisper back. Why do I feel the need to justify myself to him?

“Lucky boy. You should keep doing what you’re told, since I’m sure he’d love to find you alive tomorrow morning.”

I finally slot the zip tie in place and pull. “I am,” I say to placate him, making sure not to tighten too much.

He gets closer to me, slides his hand along my arm, grabs the end of the plastic, and pulls harshly, making me wince.

“Bad girl,” he whispers in my ear. “That was way too loose.”

I shiver as his warm breath caresses my neck. He steps away, and the hand holding his gun comes to rest against his thigh. “Where’s Mommy and Daddy’s room?” he asks in a mocking tone.

“They’re not here.”

His eyes narrow, and he crosses his arms. “I’m gonna be very mad if you’re lying to me. You don’t want to find out what happens when I’m mad.”

“I promise they’re not here,” I squeak past my taut throat. “They’re on vacation. I’m alone.”

“Any brothers and sisters?”

“I’m an only child.”

He nods, and the moment he does so, my bedroom door opens, startling me. Another man dressed in all black and wearing a ski mask enters.

He’s holding a handbag, myhandbag, in his right hand and a torch. He’s pointing it at my driver's license in his left hand.

“There’s no one else here,” the new incomer confirms as he walks in. “But, man,” he laughs. His voice is much lighter than the person who’s been with me till now. It flies through the air while the other crashes into you heavily. “You’ll never guess what I just found.”

No.

I already know what he’s so happy about.

“Not money, that’s for sure,” the one next to me answers unhappily.

“Oh no. Much better.” He walks toward my bed. “Tell my friend here your name, sweetheart.”

My heart kicks into a panic. Nothing will be smooth from here on out.
