She takes a small packet out of her purse and pours some more cocaine on the glass table in front of us. She cuts it with her card, makes a neat line, and one of her friends hands her a rolled hundred-dollar bill. Harper lowers her head and inhales half of it in a split second.

“Damn,” she giggles. “The new stuff Xi brings is fire. The bastard is good.”

Peach was right. Xiisa drug dealer, and it’s clear. The proof is right in front of my eyes. It’s disappointing to know I was going crazy over someone who clearly isn’t for me.

They all agree with Harper before she moves to give me the rolled bill. “Your turn.”

I shake my head. “I don’t do drugs.”

Harper cocks an eyebrow at me. “Really? Then how do you know Xi?”

“Um…” My head is spinning, and her voice is hard to understand through my drunk brain. Words tumble from my lips without me being able to think if I should lie or not. “He sort of…sort of rescued me from the North Shore when my car got stolen.”

“Rescued you?” one of the girls snorts. “Are we talking about the same asshole?”

Harper cackles a mocking laugh. “Xi is no hero, believe me.”

I nod, showing I don’t wish to contradict her. “No, I don’t think he is.”

She grabs a tequila shot and downs it before turning to me. “Your turn.”

“I can’t. I’m so drunk already. I’ll be sick.”

“God, Alex,” she snorts. “Are you always so boring?”

I gulp and shake my head. Instead of standing up for myself, I grab the two shots and down them.

The others clap. “Well done,” one of them says.

My stomach churns, and I have to swallow back bile. I really don’t want to be sick right now. It would be so embarrassing.

“Alex,” another calls my name. “What do you think about Xi?”

“He’s so hot.” The words just escaped me, and I put a hand in front of my mouth. They all giggle except Harper.

“Look,” Harper says as she puts a hand on my knee. I look at her with heavy eyelids. “I hate being that kind of girl because my sisters always come first. But Xi and I have sort of had a thing going on for a while.”

My brows furrow, and she smiles at me. She’s so satisfied right now. “We’ve never been official or anything, but everyone in our sorority knows he’s off limits. In other words, he’s mine, and I really don’t want you to get in the way.”

“O-okay,” I slur. My head falls forward when I try to nod, and they all laugh at me.

“You’re one of us, Alex. Right?” Harper insists. “You don’t want to go against your sisters. I would hate for your life to get difficult at Xi Ep.”

“I w-won’t get in the way. I promise.” I try to turn to her, but she grabs the back of my neck.

“Show me you can do what you’re told.” She shoves the hundred-dollar bill in my hand and grabs my wrist to put my hand on the table. Before I know it, she’s shoving my face down.

I whimper, sure I’m going to hit the glass, but she holds me back.

“You’ll see. It feels really good,” she whispers in my ear. She presses her finger to my left nostril, her manicured nail practically cutting my skin as I bring the note to my right. With a trembling hand, I line the bill with the white powder and inhale. Harper is the one guiding me as I breathe it all in.

She pulls my head back up and I drop the bill. My nose hurts, like I need to sneeze even though I can’t. I feel like I’m going to get a nosebleed as I start coughing and rubbing my nostrils.

They all start laughing. “You’re amazing,” Harper claps. “I’m going to make the best little sister out of you.”

A rush goes to my head, and everything starts spinning.

“I don’t feel very well,” I squeak.
