“Then maybe you should just go home,” Harper suggests with a wry smile.

“I don’t think I can walk home like this,” I slur. “Can you…can you help me?”

Tears spring to my eyes when they all go quiet. “You’ll be fine,” are the only words Harper offers me before she hushes me with a hand gesture.

They all stare at me, clearly waiting for me to leave. I get up, and the whole world tilts. Swaying to the side, I hit the patio barrier. Laughter resonates around me, but I keep going, holding the barrier to keep myself upright.

It takes me God knows how long to make it out of the house. The party is still raging, and I have to cross too many rooms to count. I want to call Chester or the girls and look for my phone in my pink purse for a few minutes before remembering I don’t have a phone.

I ordered one to be delivered the day after it got stolen with my car, but it still hasn’t arrived. Running my hands across my face, the rush I’m getting from the cocaine is accelerating my heart rate and making me panic.

I take a deep, shaky breath. I’m high and completely drunk. My vision is blurry, my body shaking, and I’ve basically been kicked out of this party.

All this because I admitted to knowing Xi and finding him attractive.

Peach was right. Harper is a Stoneview bitch, and Xi is nothing but trouble.

Struggling to put one foot in front of the other, I cross the lawn and take forever to get back to the street. The SFU area and its surroundings are perfectly safe; I have no reason to worry. But I’m a woman in a vulnerable state, and I don’t trust anything right now.

I’m swaying as I walk, sometimes almost sprinting, sometimes feeling too sick to even keep going. The back of my throat tastes disgusting, like some of the white powder is still stuck there.

Two cars have driven past me; one was clearly full of drunk students. They shouted how hot I was, but none of them offered to help. It’s a good thing, anyway. I just want to get home and not talk to anybody.

But the universe seems to have a different idea.

I hear a car slowing down behind me. Too scared to turn around, I accelerate and cross my arms over my chest. I feel like I’m going to have a heart attack. Everything is so intense right now, and my eyes keep blinking. The car keeps at my pace and fear wraps all around me. I start jogging, and I hear the car accelerating.

My mind spirals into panic as I prepare to sprint, but I hear. “Alexandra.”

That voice. The way he says my name.

I stop right away, turning around to find not only Xi, but Xi drivingmycar. The one that was stolen.

Are the drugs messing with my brain?

“I’m so confused,” I admit in drunken honesty.

In his typicalI’m an unhappy man and I am annoyedbehavior, he leans over to open the passenger door. “Get in.”

I don’t think twice. After the scare I just gave myself, I’m happy to see a familiar face. I hop into the passenger seat ofmycar and turn to him as he starts driving.

“How…?”

His tongue grazes his front teeth. “I asked around and made sure to get it back.” He turns to me and despite the haze, I can’t miss his square jaw. He’s dazzling with the trimmed five o’clock shadow he sports.

“You’re so beautiful.” I squeeze my eyes shut as soon as the words slip out. “Sorry.”

“Don’t apologize for complimenting me.” His order is rough, undoubtedly scolding me.

“Of course. That was dumb. Sorry.”

He cocks an eyebrow. “And don’t apologize for having apologized.”
