"Fine, princess. I'll help you find that damn sword. But don't expect me to hold your hand every step of the way."

“Oh, I definitely don’t,” I said, wrinkling my nose in disgust. “As if I’deverwant you to touch me.”

Callister’s eyes locked on mine with an unspoken challenge I didn't quite understand.Washe jealous? Did he see something in the chemistry between Chess and me that he wanted for himself?

Or was it just that he couldn't stand the thought of someone like me–a frivolous, uppity rich girl—having any power over him?

It was probably a little of both. My mom was a frickin’ model, after all. I knew how hot I was.

I took a deep breath and turned back to Chess, leaning forward just enough to give him a great view of my cleavage.

"So, Chess...if I’m supposed to save Wonderland, where do I start?"

"First," he replied, his fingers tracing a slow, seductive path up my thigh, “you’ll need to learn more about the Vorpal Sword. Where it's hidden, and then how to wield it, and what dangers lie between you and the perils of Wonderland.”

“I can handle that,” I agreed, trying to ignore the heat that pooled in my core as his touch lingered. Whatever was going on between me and Callister, I knew one thing for sure: Chess had me ensnared, and I had no intention of trying to break free.

"Chess," I began, biting my lower lip as my pulse raced, "will you come with me? Will you come along and help me find the sword? Show me what to do once I get my hands on it?”

His green eyes darkened, and a look of hunger spread across his face. "I'd be delighted, Alice," he purred, his hand still on my thigh. The contact sent shivers down my back, and I couldn't hide my sudden intake of breath. "You don't need to be shy about asking me for anything you want, Alice.”

“Oh, I won’t be shy.” I looked away from him and settled my gaze back on Callister, whose nostrils were flaring with restrained frustration.

Yeah...he totally wanted to fuck me.

“How soon would you like to leave?" Chess murmured, leaning closer until his lips were almost touching my ear.

“As soon as possible,” I whispered, embracing the throbbing sensation between my legs, even though I was still looking at Callister.

"Then let's not waste any more time."

“Do we need to bring any supplies?” I asked, finally turning to look at Chess. His pupils were dilated with desire, suggesting that he might’ve liked to stay and show me his room. Instead, he took his hand away from my thigh and regained his composure.

“Anything we could need, I can provide,” he boasted, and made a little motion of his hand. Suddenly he was holding an umbrella. He tossed it to Callister, who caught it and set it aside just in time to catch a purple flamingo, followed by a dozen baby flamingos. Then a pair of ruby slippers. A bouquet of cat-shaped helium balloons. A book of fairy tales and a bag of marshmallows. A pinwheel. An inflatable raft.

But when Chess hurled a bowling ball at him, Callister had clearly had enough.

“Will you stop it? You’ve made your fucking point!” he growled as he dropped the bowling ball on the floor with a heavy thud. The family of purple flamingoes flapped around him, each of them flying in different directions. One of them was digging through his teal pompadour.

I burst out laughing as Chess took my hand and led me down the hallway and out the door.

“I can’t believe that just happened!” I gasped, trying to catch my breath. Chess shook his head and brushed a piece of lint from his leopard print tux.

“He brings it all upon himself. Honestly...he’s so easy to tease. That’s why I have to be creative in finding ways to make it more interesting.”

“I’ve gotta say, I’m impressed by your creativity,” I told him as we started to walk down the path that meandered across the front lawn.

“Just you wait, Alice,” he said, placing his hand on the small of my back. “I’ll show you just how creative I can be.”

“Wait!” a voice shouted behind us, jolting me out of the sensual fog I was quickly getting lost in.

I turned around to see Callister walking towards us. He was waving something in his hand, but I didn’t notice what it was because I was too distracted by the family of flamingoes following behind him.

"Here," he said gruffly, pushing the object into my hand. His expression was impossible to read. "This should help you on your journey."

It was a rolled-up piece of parchment.

I unrolled it carefully, revealing a very detailed map of Wonderland. A purple 'X' marked a spot deep within the twisting, labyrinthine forest, and I couldn't help but feel a thrill of excitement at the thought of what lay ahead.
