“Oh, yeah, friend, you’re down bad.”

We both burst into a fit of laughter as Shayla turned into my driveway. Luckily, the potential buyers and the realtor had already concluded their walkthrough. The large box waiting on my porch struck my attention, making me a bit more anxious to get out of Shayla’s car and up the steps.

“And catering he is doing, because I have a feeling you didn’t order that. Whateverthatis… or did you.”

“I didn’t,” I stated as a matter of fact.

“It must be nice, honey, coming home to surprise gifts. Going to dinner. Knowing you’re going to end the night with your man. Waking up to your man.”

“He’s not my man, yet. Slow down, Shayla.”

“Girl, are you trying to convince yourself or me? Because you’re wasting your breath either way.”

“He needs to ask first. I made it clear that we’re not falling into a routine. He has to actively pursue me and not assume that anything is other than what’s been made clear by us both. So, until there’s a ring on my finger or Milo officially asks me to be his, then I’m very much so a single woman.”

“Who can’t date other men?”

“Who can’t date other men,” I confirmed with a smile ripping through my face.

“You’re so full of shit,” Shayla taunted, nudging me.

“His rules, not mine.” I sighed with a shrug.

“Girl, get out of my car.”

I climbed out of the passenger seat and into the backseat where Mason was staring at the fish that dangled from the handle of his seat, keeping him entertained. Once I unfastened the seatbelt, we were both able to slide across the backseat and out of the car completely.

“Call me and let me know what you decide on.”

After hours of shopping without any luck, I decided to wear one of the many items in my closet that still had tags on it.

“I will. Answer my FaceTime tonight.”

“Sure thing, babe. Do you need me to unlock the door and let you guys inside?”

“No. I’ll be fine. I’m getting the hang of this thing, finally.”

“Wait, where will he be while you guys are at dinner?”

“Milo has everything handled. Aeir, Mason’s aunt, agreed to take him for the night. She’ll be over to get him at three.”

“Alright. Let me know if that doesn’t work out because I’ll come get the little nugget.”

“Okay. I’ll call you.”

I tried kicking the box inside of the house after unlocking the door and pushing it open. It was resistant, moving only an inch. I got Mason situated in the living room and ran back out to grab it. However, Shayla was already out of her car, carrying it inside for me.

“Here. Whatever the hell is in here is heavy. Now, I’m curious. Open it.”

She handed me her keys with the sharp one separated from the rest. I bent over and ran the key along the line of the tape that held the box together. When I finally popped it open, I was pleasantly surprised to see three large boxes, all from different designers, in addition to two smaller ones that matched the logos on two of the larger ones. A note was the final piece to the puzzle that I was desperately trying to solve before my anxiety stole my joy.

Nature,

Don’t worry your pretty little head too much about your attire. Focus on the details. Here are a few options. See you at eight, baby.

*hint hint*The ivory one looks much easier to take off.

I love you lots,Nay.
