“Lawe?”

“Yeah. I ran it by him Wednesday at the barbershop, forgetting this nigga buying up everything in Berkeley. The money will be in your account Monday. The transfer takes a few days.”

“He bought it already?”

“Wired the money before we left the barbershop.”

“Jesus, Milo, and you said nothing.”

“Because I told you I’d handle it and I meant it.”

“Thanks. I just wish I’d had a heads up and time to prepare for this move instead of coming home to an empty house for the most part. And what do we have to do this weekend? I had every intention of resting while you take father duty way too serious the entire weekend.”

“You can watch, but it won’t be from either of our homes. We’re skipping town and will be back Sunday night.”

“Skipping town?”

“Yeah. I booked a cabin stay for us. I think we could both use some quiet and some calm after such a whirlwind.”

“Whirlwind?” she questioned.

“Mason’s birth. Pregnancy. Doctor appointments. Relationship shit. Diagnosis. Shit hasn’t been exactly chill lately, Nay.”

Sighing, she agreed. “I know. Hearing you say it out loud makes me realize just how busy our lives have been over the last few months.”

“Exactly. Some time together, away from everything and everyone, just to hear ourselves think and get some much-needed rest will do us both some good.”

“Baby?”

“Yeah?”

“I keep waiting on someone to pinch me.”

“Pinch you?”

“Because I have to be dreaming. A year ago, if someone would’ve told me we’d be here, I’d swear they were gassing me up just to let me down.”

“Is that what this feels like?”

“Sometimes. I just keep waiting for something to destroy this life and love we’re trying to build.”

“Nothing is going to happen because neither of us will let it. And even if something out of our control was to happen, all that matters is we both know where we stand with one another. As long as our foundation is solid, we’re good.”

“Then, we’re good?”

“We’re impeccable, baby. Solid. So, stop worrying. It hinders your joy in moments that it matters most. It’s counterproductive for us both. I’m better, Nay. I won’t hurt you. Never. Don’t wait for it because it won’t happen. Okay?”

“Okay.”

“Now, get out of that house and find something to do with yourself until it’s time to roll. I’m leaving my car here, so scoop me in two hours.”

“Two hours? I have to get packed and Mason nee—”

“I’ve handled it already. So, when your man says scoop him in two hours, quiet your thoughts and scoop him in two hours.”

“Yes, sir.”

“Daddy. I think I like Daddy better.”
