“No, I can’t be here when you prepare thethings,” Holly said in disbelief. “That’s not how you did it the last time. I’ll go and wait in your lounge.”

“These things don’t work, Holly,” Fyre called after her.

“Stop selling yourself short, Fyre Spirit,” Holly countered as she walked out of the kitchen.

She spent the next few minutes pacing up and down her friend’s pretty standard apartment, given that she was known for her eccentricities and basically ran a fortune-telling gig as well.

Of course, Holly understood it was all just pretend. But so what if she placebo-ed herself into not thinking about them? Because thinking about them was plain wrong.

They were supposed to be one big, happy blended family.

And just because her mother, who looked forty in her sixties, married an attractive gentleman six years ago who came with three grown-up sons of his own, whom he had adopted, didn’t mean she could have disturbingly suggestive thoughts about her new hot stepbrothers. It was wrong. So wrong.

Kingston, Nolan, and Fletcher were off-limits.

Which part of that did her brain not understand?

Chapter Two

She just had to stop thinking about them.

Period.

And she would. She could. With Fyre’s help, that is.

“Okay, I’m ready,” Fyre called from the kitchen. Holly couldn’t get there fast enough.

Her sweet friend had already set everything up on her kitchen table, with scented candles and scented sticks, and even put on her beaded shawl over her sexy-ass lingerie. She also humored Holly and tied her signature red scarf around her head. There wasn’t ever a better friend than Fyre.

“Thank you. I love you.” Holly whispered.

Fyre shook her head, still exasperated. Too bad for her.

“Give me your hands.” Fyre laid her hands down on the table and waited for Holly to lay her hands down on top of hers. She then closed her eyes and, using her thumbs, rubbed circles into Holly’s palm while murmuring in a language Holly didn’t understand, and it didn’t matter either, because whatever Fyre did worked.

“You are no longer attracted to one Kingston West, one Nolan West, and one Fletcher West. You are a strong young woman. You are in control of your world, your universe, and your thoughts. Repeat after me. I am a strong young woman. I am in control of my world, my universe, and my thoughts. I am no longer attracted to one Kingston West, one Nolan West, and one Fletcher West.”

Holly repeated the chant word for word, saying the words with her whole heart and believing in them completely. She was so going to be cured again.

“Good,” Fyre said, removing her hands from under Holly’s. “Keep your hands open and repeat after me.” She placed three gemstones on Holly’s cupped palms, then closed Holly’s fingers over them. “I am a strong young woman. I am in control of my world, my universe, and my thoughts. I am no longer attracted to one Kingston West, one Nolan West, and one Fletcher West. And these stones will be my protection. Will bring me back when I weaken. Will be my guardians against lustful thoughts for my stepbrothers.”

Again, Holly repeated the incantations word for word and with enthusiasm.

“Guard my friend,” Fyre murmured, then gestured for Holly to open her hands. She blew on the multi-colored stones, then took them, put them into another small velvet pouch, and handed them to Holly. “There, you’re all good now. Feel better?”

“So much better. Thank you.” Clutching the bag tightly to her, she rose from the chair and went over and hugged her friend.

“Thank you for indulging me.”

“Any time, babe. You know I got you,” Fyre said, hugging her back while she was still seated.

Holly released a pent-up breath, then another.

“So, what happened? Something must have triggered this?” Fyre asked.

“A wedding invitation.”

“You dreamt about marrying them?”
