But that’s just it. He’s always been the best person in my life. My confidant. My partner. The person I spend more time with than anyone else and still never grow tired of. The keeper of my past and my future. My friend. What would it be like to bring all of that into a relationship?

If what we just did is any indication, it would be really fucking amazing.

I’m about to tell him as much, when the lights go off and the curtains on the stage pull back revealing a Tamzell woman kneeling in front of a Nebulan man. Her back is to us, and the only thing she’s wearing is a black thong. After staring for a few seconds, I realize his cock is in her mouth.

“Woah, I was not expecting that,” I say under my breath.

Zenth tenses, immediately looks away and angles his body so he’s not facing the stage. Which leaves him facing me. I pull one leg up under me on the booth and do the same.

“I’m sorry,” he says stiffly. “I didn’t know when I chose this place.”

Of course he didn’t. This isn’t a place Zenth would choose. He’s as uncomfortable as a M’ku in water.

“Let’s get the waitress’s attention and leave.” I squeeze his knee to let him know it’s okay, but now that I’m touching him again, I don’t want to stop.

Our eyes lock. The scene on the stage makes me think of something I’ve always wanted to ask Zenth, but never felt brave enough to voice. We talk about everythingexcept sex. It’s always been an unspoken agreement between us. He doesn’t share his sex life with me, and I don’t share mine with him. But now, all I can think about is who has sucked him like that woman and did he like it?

I take a deep breath and spit out the question. “Is it true that a Tamzell’s cum can get you drunk?”

His pupils darken, and his blue skin turns a shade so deep it matches his suit. “Not drunk, exactly, but something like it. Euphoric, people say.”

He’s giving me that look again, the one that singes my skin and makes me want to do things I’ve never thought of doing with Zenth. My nipples are hard, and I’m still so wet that I’m worried I’ll soak through my dress.

Even keeping my eyes off the stage, I can still hear the sounds the couple is making. The moans. The curses. The wet suction of skin. Fuck, I’m turned on.

“We should leave,” I say again.

Zenth breaks eye contact to look around for the waitress. She’s nowhere to be seen. If we get up, we’ll be in the sight line of every table here. Everyone would watch us. Would they feel like we’re judging them by leaving? I really don’t care how someone else gets their kicks. It’s none of my business. I just don’t want to watch these two go at it right in front of me.

But standing up in front of everyone while their eyes are glued to…that… doesn’t sound appealing, either.

I’ve never enjoyed the spotlight, and I know Zenth hates it even more. Besides, we haven’t paid yet. If we’re going to be stuck here, maybe I should just relax and have a little fun.

I glance back at the couple on the stage. They sure seem to be having a good time. Still, watching them makes me more than a little uncomfortable. I wonder if they’re really together or just being paid to do a job. Do they feel exploited or are they genuinely into this?

Zenth pinches my chin with his thumb and redirects my head. “Stop looking.”

His words rumble through his chest and give me chills. I like this side of Zenth. Really, I like all sides of Zenth. He can be a little single-minded and prickly, but when he’s comfortable around someone, he’s also goofy and surprising. I can barely keep up with how smart he is sometimes. He’s loyal and generous. And now I know he’s got magic fingers and can be commanding when he wants to be.

“Where should I look, boss man?”

He tugs me onto his lap, blocking his view of the stage and making it so we’re facing each other. Before I can get my bearings, he kisses me. His lips sear mine with a heat so intense it burns. My core pulses and throbs. His hands drag down my hips and mine slide behind his neck.

I’m glad the back of this booth shields us so completely from the rest of the room. No one can see us from here, except the couple on stage, but they’re too distracted to notice Zenth is kissing me like his life depends on it.

I thought I’d have to convince him to take down his walls and not ignore what happened. I was worried he’d never do this again. But his kiss proves he wants me as much as I want him.

He roughly tilts my head until our mouths lock together like the latching mechanisms on cargo ships. No gaps between his lips and mine.

I shift so I’m straddling him and my dress rides up, that long slit cutting almost to my waist. When I wiggle to seat myself closer, I can feel the hard ridge of him against my soft center. He groans and stills my hips with his hands.

“Vera.” My name is a warning, but I’m not sure what he’s warning me about. Does he think we should stop? Or just not do this here? He’s the one who kissed me and made me come a few minutes ago. He’s the one who brought me to a sex club—even if it was unintentional—and then pulled me onto his lap.

Offering a bright smile, I pluck at the top button of his shirt. “Is there something you’d like to say, boss man?”

I wonder if the reason he hates when I call him that is because he doesn’t want to be reminded he’s my boss, doesn’t want me to think of him like that. His confession that he’s wanted me for so long makes so many things in our relationship take on new meaning.

He drops his forehead to mine. “Vera.”
