“Yeah? How does he feel about you? How in love do you think he will be after he learns that I have fucked you every which way till Sunday, huh? Will he still love you once he finds out about our little games? How you gagged on my cock as I fucked you with my flogger’s handle? Tell me, how understanding would the great king of the east be when he learns that his precious queen likes it rough and dirty? Likes to be tied up to be used and abused by the man he dreams of killing one day?”

“Who says that you’re the only man I have ever let be rough with me? Or have you forgotten that when I came to you, my virtue had long been given to him.”

Teo doesn’t so much as flinch as he charges toward me and wraps his hand around my neck.

“The fuck did you just say?”

“You heard me,” I challenge, my cold gaze piercing his heated one.

“You think he can satisfy you? You think he burns for you like I do? That his every waking minute is spent thinking about how best to serve you? How best to fucking love you?!”

“You have no idea what love is,” I quip back, knowing it’s a lie the minute the words spill from my lips.

“No, kitten. I know what love is because I have been tormented by it since the day I left you. I’m the fool to think you felt the same way,” he breathes out, desperation and longing replacing the anger in his tone. His grip on my throat eases so that his hand slowly trails down my chest until it stops at my heart.

“I thought if I just made you remember… if I just awakened you to see what we could be like together, that you’d understand. There can never be anyone else for us, kitten. We’re fated, you and I. It was always supposed to be us. Just us.”

My heart feels like it’s being torn apart with the devastation dimming his bright eyes.

“Teo, I—” But before I have time to finish my thought, someone knocks at the door.

“Go away,” Teo replies, only for whoever is outside in the hall to bang at the door again. “I said go away.” Another bang. “Curse the gods, but I told you to go away!” Teo yells as he turns around to open the door.

“My apologies, Your Highness, but this is important. Is the queen with you?” Anya asks, shifting nervously from one foot to another.

“There’s your queen,” he replies, widening his door so that Anya can look inside his room.

Anya immediately lowers her gaze to the floor when she realizes that both me and Teo are completely naked.

“I’m sorry, K—my queen. I didn’t mean to interrupt.”

“Well, you did. And we were having such a lovely time, weren’t we, kitten?” Teo snorts sarcastically.

I look for something to put on and let out a sigh of relief when I find Teo’s silk robe by the bed. I hurriedly put it on and rush to the door.

“Anya, is everything okay?” I ask, eyeing her up and down to see if she’s hurt. “Is it Inessa?” I add when I confirm that Anya looks well, even if uncomfortable.

“Everything is fine, my queen. Both Inessa and I are fine.”

“Then what’s wrong?”

Anya discreetly looks up at Teo and then to me.

“You received a letter today, my queen. One that demands your immediate attention.”

My anxious thoughts go immediately to my brother.

“Is it Elijah?” I ask worriedly, stretching my hand for Anya to deliver me the letter.

“No, my queen.” She shakes her head, while pulling her arms from behind her back to show me an all too familiar green hydrangea seal. “The letter did not come from the north,” she pauses to take a fortifying breath, “but the east.”

Levi.

As if the man himself just raised a wedge in between us, I step away from Teo and leave his room.

“You’re just going to leave?” he asks, pained.

“I am.”
