Grace leanedon the counter and checked her clock for the fifteenth time. She’d left work early, taking some work home with her, knowing that Michael’s plane was due to land at two.

He’d taken the earliest flight he could from Heathrow, which meant that he’d had to be at the airport at some stupid time early that morning. Though he’d texted her to let her know when his airplane took off, she’d been asleep and by the time she woke up and saw his message, he was somewhere over the Atlantic.

Today had felt like the longest day ever. She’d been so jittery her mom had thought she was sick and sent her home. Grace hadn’t argued. She’d been planning on leaving as soon as Michael’s plane landed anyway.

She was a little early was all.

Hey beautiful. We’ve landed. Just heading to customs. Should be with you in two hours. Can’t wait to see you. – Michael xx

His message was the warm embrace she needed right now. He was back in the US. Coming home to her. She let out a breath and finally relaxed.

Can’t wait. I’m at home. Come straight here if you can. – Grace xx

There’s no other place I want to be. – Michael xx

Damn, he was a sweet talker. She couldn’t help the grin on her face as she finished the email she was supposed to be sending and poured herself a cup of coffee, glancing at the clock to figure out right when he’d be home.

Two more hours. She could do that. She’d waited this long, after all.

She could barely keep still as the minutes took their time ticking by. Michael called her from the baggage reclaim area, but then his luggage came fast and he’d had to go. She thought about calling him back, but she had work to do before he got here.

And she knew that as soon as he walked through the door, all thoughts of reports and emails would be forgotten.

It was almost four when she heard the rumble of an engine outside. She glanced out of the window to see him pulling up along the side of her house, where his car couldn’t be seen from the road.

And then he was climbing out, running his fingers through his hair, and her heart slammed against her chest. She’d forgotten how beautiful he was to look at.

She almost ran to her back door, wrenching it open before he could reach the steps. Running out, she threw herself against him and he caught her in his arms, laughing as he kissed her.

“Never leave me again,” she told him breathlessly when they finally parted.

“Not planning on it.” His gaze was soft. He reached out to cup her cheek. “I’ve missed looking at you.”

“Ditto.” She grabbed his hand, pulling him inside. “How was your flight?”

“Long. I almost fell asleep, but we hit turbulence and the moment passed.”

She grimaced. “I hate when that happens. I always think I’m about to die.”

Michael couldn’t help but laugh. “Well, somehow I made it unscathed.”

“Luckily for me.” She rolled onto her feet again, brushing her lips against his. “Do you want a coffee?”

He shook his head. “No.”

“Something to eat?”

“Just you.” His voice was husky. Curling his fingers around her waist, he pulled her closer and she could feel how hungry he was.

For her. Only for her. It sent a shot of excitement through her body.

“How was London?” she asked him.

“I’m finished with London.” His eyes caught hers, and she knew he meant more than the sale of his business.

“Good.” She slid her fingers into his hair, tugging him down until his lips were on hers again. “London’s loss is my gain.”

“Ourgain,” he said, grinning as he kissed her once again. This time, his lips were soft and teasing, sending pulses of pleasure through her body. She curled her arms around his neck as their kiss deepened.
