He turned to look at her. “What?”

“That Ethan’s nose is broken.”

He let out a long breath of air, like she’d just asked him to do something he hated. “Yeah, it’s true.”

“You did it?”

“Not like you think.”

It didn’t matter that she wasn’t supposed to talk to him. It didn’t matter that she felt as tired as he looked and just wanted to go home.

“You have no right,” she told him.

“What?” His brows dipped.

“To hit somebody.”

“That’s what you think, is it?”

“That’s what I heard. And let’s get one thing straight. You don’t get to hit him because of me.”

“Grace, let me expl—”

“No.” She shook her head vehemently. “You don’t get to go all caveman because you happened to spend a single night with me. You don’t get to come to town and make things difficult for me because you’re jealous of another guy.”

“I’m not jealous.”

“No?” She folded her arms in front of her.

He stared at her impassively. “No.”

“Whatever. I’m going home.”

Letting out a huff she climbed into her car and slammed the door closed, starting up the engine and turning up the music. A country station came on and she jabbed at the radio button until a rock song was blasting through the speakers.

She turned it up.

“Stupid men,” she muttered, putting the car into reverse and putting her foot down onto the gas.

Turning the car around, she took one last glance behind her to see Michael still standing there. He was mouthing something, and she shook her head to tell him she couldn’t hear a word. Instead of getting the hint, he stormed toward the car and motioned at the window.

Reluctantly, she pressed the button to wind it down.

“What now?” she shouted over the music.

There was a twitch in his jaw. “Keep your damn eyes on the road. And drive carefully.”

She gave him a glare and pressed the window button once more. “Thanks,Dad,” she said sarcastically. “I’ll try.”

ChapterTwelve

“What?”Grace blinked, looking at Arcadia’s foot, then back at her uncle. “How did you know this?”

Logan lifted a brow. “Michael told me.”

“He told you that Ethan loosened Arcadia’s shoe?” She’d spent most of the night tossing and turning. “When?”

“He overheard Ethan telling somebody last night.” He shrugged. “He was right. I’ve called the farrier in. And I’ll be calling the cops, too.” He lifted a brow. “Not that they’ll do anything.”
