“Mmhm.” He smiled softly at her.

She yawned, then stretched her arms. “Is there some water around here?”

“We finished the bottle they gave us last night.” After all that singing, and ah… other stuff, they were both thirsty as hell. He grabbed the other phone – the hotel one – by the side of the bed. “I’ll ask them to send up some more.”

“It’s okay. I’ll drink from the faucet.”

“No, you won’t. You don’t know what’s in it.”

She grinned. “Whatever. Call away.”

He lifted the phone and murmured into it, ordering some coffee and pastries as well. When he’d put the phone down again, she’d drifted back to sleep. This time her hands were clasped under her cheek, her hair fanned out on the pillow. He leaned down to kiss her soft lips and climbed out of bed to put on a pair of shorts before room service arrived.

And then he’d check his emails and messages before Grace woke up. Maybe even call Josh back.

No. He’d save that delight for tomorrow.

When room service returned, their knock was quiet enough not to wake Grace, thankfully, and he pulled the door open and took the tray, passing a ten-dollar bill to the bellboy in return. It was only when he put the tray on the desk that he realized they’d forgotten the water. The whole point of the order. Rolling his eyes, he walked to grab the phone, but then the bellhop knocked again.

“I was just about to call you,” he said, opening the door.

“Funny. I’ve been calling you for the last twenty minutes.” Josh walked inside and Michael’s heart just about stopped.

“What are you doing here?” he asked gruffly, stepping into the middle of the hallway so Josh couldn’t get past him.

“Mom told me you were in Charleston. My home town,” His tone was pointed. “I thought we could have breakfast together.”

Michael swallowed hard. “I could have been asleep.”

“You have meetings all day.” Josh rolled his eyes. “Come on, we hardly see each other. Let’s grab something to eat before you have to work.”

“Is the water here?” Grace called out from the bedroom.

Josh’s eyes widened. “You’ve got a woman here?” He rolled onto his tiptoes, trying to look around Michael’s shoulder.

“Get out of here,” Michael said, pushing him down firmly. “I’ll talk to you later. How did you get my room number, anyway?”

“You told mom, remember? In case of emergencies.”

Shit, he had. But still…

“Michael?” Grace called out. He heard the pad of feet hitting the floor as she walked across the hotel room. She was still out of sight, at least.

Josh blinked. “Is that Grace? It sounds like her.”

“No.” Michael shook his head. And then she turned the corner.

“Oh.” She stopped short when she saw Josh standing there.

Josh’s eyes widened. Because not only was it his step cousin looking around the corner, but she was wearing nothing but a pair of panties.

“Dear Lord, your brother just saw me naked,” Grace felt her body heat with mortification. She’d run away as soon as she’d realized Josh was standing in the vestibule of their hotel room. Why had she walked around there? She should have put some clothes on.

She should have stayed out of sight.

“Calm down, it’s okay.” Michael cupped her face. “I was standing between you two. And he swears he didn’t see your body. Just your face.”
