“But I’m also attracted to…someone else,” I add, worried he might react poorly and shove me away. I need to be honest, though.

“Ah, so I have competition? Would that someone be one of the twins I see you with every Friday? Or maybe the nurse that used to stomp around town growling at everyone until you arrived? Now he’s like a whole different person,” he chuckles. But when Elijah leans in, whispering into my ear, “Or is he maybe your mildly intimidating stepbrother that makes you blush the sexiest shade of pink every time he presses an innocent kiss to your skin?” my eyes go wide, and I pull back.

His guess about Zach, Jer, and Isaiah seemed obvious, but for him to notice my attraction to Anton? Am I that fucking obvious?!

“We can move slow. Get to know each other outside this store with the understanding that you’re getting to know the others as well.” He smiles, and my mouth just falls open.

“You’re okay with that? But–”

“Remember when I mentioned Violet the day we met?” he asks, and I frown.

“Vaguely?”

“Well, she made me realize that maybe it’s better to share than it is to go completely without.” His casual tone and easy shrug make me feel like I stepped into an alternate reality. “I can see you weren't prepared for this conversation,” he chuckles, pressing a kiss to the tip of my nose. “I’ll be here when you decide.” He releases me and steps away, returning to his desk.

“Uh…”

“Oh, and I loved your idea. Let's get it organized on Monday. Have a good weekend.” He doesn’t look at me again as I make my escape, feeling seriously off-kilter.

I walk to the coffee shop in a daze for my Friday evening coffee date. This is why when Jer asks me what's wrong, I don't even hesitate to answer.

“Told my boss I was attracted to him. And you two. And Isaiah.” I cringe. “He guessed, actually.” I take a seat in our usual booth, remove my jacket and stare at the table. “Do I blush around Anton?” I asked, finally looking up to meet Jer’s eyes.

“Usually, yes. Particularly when he kisses your forehead like we don’t all see right through him,” Jer says easily, and I blink. Stare…blink again.

Then the entire situation fully sinks in, and my hand flies up to cover my mouth as my eyes go wide.

“Well fuck,” I finally say, this time feeling exactly how hot my cheeks burn.

“Fuck what?” Zach asks as he slides in beside me.

“Nothing,” I say, at the same time Jer speaks.

“Us, apparently.” The wicked grin Jer gives me in reply to my death stare makes my eyes roll.

“That’s not what I said,” I argue, and Jer shrugs.

“That's what I heard,” he disagrees, and I throw my hand up.

My reply is interrupted by Daphne setting three drinks on the table. I distract myself by taking a sip.

“So, what's this I hear about you wanting to fuck us?” Zach turns to face me, lifting his brow, and I freeze up.

“Not what I said…” I manage to force out.

“Then what did you say then?” he presses, and I swallow my mouthful of iced coffee.

“Just that I was attracted to multiple people.” I look away, focusing on the condensation dripping down the side of my cup.

“Five people,” Jer supplies, and I snap my head up.

“Jer!” I protest.

“Tell me I’m wrong. Go on, Sapphire, lie to me.” His challenge makes me squirm in my seat.

“Not the point,” I deflect, sitting up straighter and lifting my chin.

“Short skirts and high heels are the work of the devil,” Zach growls, staring at my exposed thighs. “Fucking sinful.” His words remind me of what Elijah just said back in the bookstore, and I blush furiously.
