Her lips were a little too red, and she had lipstick on her teeth.

None of that mattered to me when it came down to finding a place to rest my dick for the night, but Danna flashed before me.

She had dark hair, not bottle blonde like this one. Her curves, her beauty, and her striking green eyes were all natural, and she’d drawn me in because she’d been utterly unaware of how fascinating she was.

I was suddenly put off by how this woman threw herself at me. She wanted me to want her, and that did the opposite.

“I’m sure you’ll find a lot of men here who will be willing to help you out,” I said.

Her face fell.

“You’re not going to find them up here in the VIP section, though. Why don’t you and the girls go down to the bar? Your first round’s on me, tell the bartender I sent you.”

She looked disappointed. Free alcohol wasn’t what she’d had in mind, but that was all she was getting from me tonight.

She got up and whispered something in the woman on Zen’s knee’s ear, and then she got up, too. When the other saw her friends about to leave, she jumped up, and just like that, they were all gone again.

“What the fuck, man?” Zen protested.

“You’re welcome to go with them,” I said with a shrug.

Zen stayed put.

“What’s wrong with you?” Rune asked.

He was frowning because of my behavior, not because of the woman he’d just lost. The twins were charming and attractive enough that they could go downstairs and get someone for the night, no questions asked. Rune wasn’t worried about losing one on the way when he could just find another. He was tuned in to my emotions more than Zen was, though.

“Nothing,” I said. “I’m just not in the mood.”

Damn if I would tell them why. Danna was still on my mind, not only keeping me out of my sleep and my work now, but chasing away women, too. They just weren’t Danna, and that made me lose my appetite for a takeout meal immediately.

“Since when aren’t you in the mood?” Zen asked, shocked. “She was human, too. I made sure I took the shifter for you, and you still cockblocked us.”

I shrugged. “I’m not forcing you to stay.”

Zen cursed under his breath before he jumped up and headed toward the stairs.

“I wonder if he knows how pathetic it looks when he chases ass like that,” I said.

Rune studied me, not falling for the bait to get the attention away from me.

“I know you’re not one for commitment, but something’s up with you,” he said.

“I guess this bullshit with the Rogues is just on my mind.”

Rune shook his head. “It’s not that. I mean, that’s been an issue for a while, and you’ve never been like this. Is it a woman?”

“Why don’t you mind your business and let me be the alpha I choose to be, huh?” I asked.

Rune held up his hands in defense. “Hey, I was just trying to help.”

“Do I look like I need help?” I snapped.

Rune shook his head, but we both knew that his answer wasn’t necessarily ‘no’. I didn’t care, though. I could deal with my emotions. I’d forgotten about Danna once before, I could do it again. I just needed some time, and to remember why I didn’t get involved with anyone in the first place.

The bullshit with the Rogues needed my attention, too, and no one was more grateful for a distraction. Now I just had to make sure that this particulardistractiondidn’t force me off the throne, getting rid of me as alpha.
