He led us to the balcony. Emmie turned around when he stripped, and I couldn’t help but stare at his naked body. He was so incredibly attractive, I couldn’t help myself.

When he shifted into a dragon, we had to bounce back so he didn’t knock us over with his wings or his tail. Up close, his dragon was enormous.

He turned his side to us and spread out a wing along the floor.

Emmie didn’t hesitate. She stepped up on his wing and clambered onto the dragon’s back without worry. A little more careful, I followed in my brave, mature little girl’s footsteps.

When I sat behind her on Wesley’s back, he flapped his wings. I yelped when his body moved as his wings flapped, but I realized we were safe—I held onto Emmie, but his large wings allowed for a footrest where it joined his body, and when we flew up into the air, the world fell away.

Wesley headed south, and Emmie squealed with delight as we flew through the clouds. Wesley was careful with us. I didn’t know how I knew, I just did. He was aware of us on his back, and he made sure not to make any quick movements.

It didn’t take long before he lowered us onto a private beach. No one was in sight.

“Turn around, honey,” I said, and Wesley shifted back into human form when she did.

I handed him the bag, and he pulled out shorts and a t-shirt. This was the most casual I’d ever seen him. His black hair and blue eyes were still intense, but his casual attire made him seem so much more human. So much more like us.

“Can I swim, Mommy?” Emmie asked, looking at the waves.

“I didn’t know to pack your suit,” I said, feeling silly.

“I got it,” Wesley said. “I asked Circe to pack a few things. Here.” He handed me the bag, and in it was a bikini for me and a swimsuit for Emmie.

“You can change over there,” Wesley said, pointing to the area with showers and changing rooms. “I’ll wait here.”

We walked to the changing rooms and put on our swimming suits before we headed back to Wesley. He’d set up a blanket and an umbrella he’d found god-knows-where. A picnic basket had appeared, too.

When we walked to him, Wesley’s eyes fell on my body, and he stared at me with such hunger that I blushed. His eyes slid down my body and back up, and I felt his gaze like a physical touch. I shivered, lust unfurling at my core.

I tried to squash it; today was a family beach day with Emmie.

Family.I couldn’t think about it like that.

Right now, Emmie and I were family. Wesley was just… I didn’t know what he was.

“Can I go? Can I go?” Emmie asked, jumping up and down with excitement.

“Yeah,” I said. “But not deeper than your hips, okay?”

Emmie nodded and ran to the water.

“This is incredible,” I said, sitting down on the blanket. “How did you put all of this together?”

“It wouldn’t be much of a surprise if I told you, right?” Wesley said and winked at me. He grinned at me, and it made him so much more attractive—his stoicism was hot as fuck, but I hadn’t seen this side of him before, and I really liked what I saw.

He took out sandwiches and offered me one. We sat side by side, eating, while we watched Emmie play in the waves.

“It’s been a while since she’s had this kind of fun,” I said. “I can’t usually take her away and treat her like this.”

“You don’t have this kind of life at home,” Wesley said.

I wasn’t sure if it was a question or just an observation.

“I try to give her what I can, but it’s hard between working full-time to make ends meet.”

“I can understand that,” Wesley said. He hesitated a moment before he added, “I’ll help out, so that when all this is over, you don’t go back to that life. You should be able to spend more time with her, and I’ll make that happen for you.”

I glanced at him. I could really use the help. I struggled to make ends meet more often than not, and to know that someone could help out was a weight off my shoulders when I’d done it all alone for so long.
