I swallowed hard. “The fae I went to see in the past couldn’t help me, so I’ve kind of been avoiding them. I thought I was a lost cause.”

Circe looked sad and nodded slowly. “Not all fae have the power to do what I did. And I’m sorry you’ve lived with this for so long. It’s going to be okay now.” She let go of my hands and smiled at me, a soft smile. “You’re going to be just fine,” she added.

Was that it? Was the curse gone?

A renewed hope and freedom surged through me, replacing the once-lingering shadows with a newfound sense of liberation. This was fucking incredible.

“What now?” I asked.

“Now, we look for Danna.” She held out her hands, and I took them again.

This time, it wasn’t about me, but about finding my mate.

It didn’t take long before magic grew thicker and thicker around me, rising like water. It spilled into the room, filling up like a hose had been opened in the room until I was drowning in magic.

Circe’s magic filled me up like I was a cup, too. It searched inside of me until it found the bond between us.

As soon as the magic found the fated bond that had been forged between us, it locked on, and my whole body jerked as the magic did its thing.

I was suddenly yanked into a different dimension. I wasn’t in my penthouse anymore. Instead, I was in the middle of the desert, miles away from anything and anyone.

I looked around, confused. My vision blurred a little around the edges, like I was looking through a warped lens.

Ahead of me, a rock formation grew. When I moved toward it, I noticed a crack in the rock, like an opening that led into a cave. It was barely visible in the night air, but it was darker than the rest of the night around us where the sky was littered with stars.

It drew me like a magnet. I didn’t know why, but I moved toward the crack, willing to let this fae’s magic draw me wherever I needed to go.

Before I reached the crack, Zen stepped out. I froze, staring at him, but he moved around, stretching and looking into the distance right past me.

He couldn’t see me.

Wherever this was, I wasn’t really here. I was here as a ghost or an apparition or something, riding on the magic of the fae.

Zen stretched until his back popped and shook himself out like a dog.

I moved past him and through the crack, and inside, I found Danna. She sat against a rock wall, looking around. I wanted to reach out to her, to tell her that she was going to be okay, but she couldn’t see me or hear me, either.

Zen came into the cave and walked right through me. The sensation was strange, like something cold passing through me, and I shivered.

“So, you have a fae coming to help you out, huh?” Danna asked.

She glared at Zen.

“He’s running late, but he’ll be here.”

“And then you’re going to make me your mate?” she asked with narrowed eyes.

First Cullen and now Zen? A seething mix of fury and profound hurt coursed through me, overwhelming me with anger and a sense of betrayal.

Zen nodded and grinned slyly. Shock ran through me. And what was Danna saying about Zen making her his mate?

“And when is your brother getting here?” Danna asked.

My stomach twisted. What if Rune was a part of all this, too? Was everyone out to betray me?

Zen snorted. “Rune is pathetic. Loyalty can be a fault, you know.”

“He’s your twin, I thought that meant you should be the same.”
