I frowned. “What do you mean? You already called them?”

She nodded. “I figured you might need some help, but I didn’t know if you were ready to accept it yet. I had to play it on the safe side.”

I grinned at her and shook my head. “Good call, fae.”

“Thanks, Alpha,” she answered, showing her loyalty to me, and we stood side by side and faced the shifters.

Anticipation and power trembled and shivered in the air.

Soon, we were going to war, and then it would all finally be over.

At the crack of dawn, Rune and Danna returned.

When I hugged Danna and planted a kiss on her lips, her skin hummed with magic.

“I gave her a crash course,” Rune said. “She can fly, and she can breathe fire, and her coordination is already pretty good with the new vision. That’s all we had time for, but it’s the three things she’ll need the most out there.”

I looked at Danna, who beamed at the compliments.

“You’re sure you want to do this?” I asked.

“Yeah,” Danna said. “This got personal when Zen decided to kidnap me—again, apparently—and I’m ready to show him that I’m not going to lie down and die. I won’t go down without a fight.”

I grinned at her. Was it possible to be more in love? I didn’t think so.

“Alpha,” a leopard shifter said, coming to me. She was naked, like all the others, so that they could shift and start fighting. “They’re here, on the horizon and coming closer.”

“Then I guess it’s time,” I said.

The leopard nodded and walked away, and I turned to Danna. I took her hand and planted kisses on her knuckles.

“If anything gets too much, get out of here,” I said. “I’d rather have you safe than dead.”

“I’ll keep an eye out for her,” Rune said.

“Me too,” Circe said, and about ten fae stepped up behind her as if they’d appeared out of nowhere. They all nodded their respect to me, and their magic was close to the surface too.

“Then it’s time to razzle-dazzle,” I said and kicked off my pants.

I shifted, leaped into the air, and let out a roar.

Half my pack below me shifted and answered my battle cry with roars and squawks. Those still in human form bellowed loudly, and we were collected and united the way we always should have been.

Power crackled in the air, and it ran over my skin like electricity. I drew from the pack, becoming more powerful, and in turn, they drew from me.

We headed toward the open planes where Zen would be waiting for us.

Danna shifted, and Rune followed suit, and they flanked me, one on each side. I felt the connection with Danna, even clearer now, and I sent affection through our bond.

She pulsed it right back at me, and when I glanced over my wing at her, her emerald eyes glowed.

Zen was suddenly in front of us. His large green dragon snarled, and he blasted me with fire.

The fight was on in a snap. I took Zen on, fighting him with all the might and fury I possessed, and chaos broke loose. The other dragons and birds were in the air, diving toward the ground to grab with talons or singe with fire.

Big cats, wolves, bears, and other beasts roared and attacked each other with vigor.

I felt a pulse of magic that was unfamiliar, and when I looked to my right, Circe and her group of fae were up against a group of dark fae. Their leader had blond hair and pale eyes, skin so light I could almost see the roadmap of his veins beneath it.
